XCountry Teams With Solid Finishes At Open N.E.'s

The Panther cross country teams raced at the Open New England Championships over the weekend at Franklin Park in Boston. The race featured Division I, II and III schools from throughout New England. The Middlebury women placed sixth overall and second among D3 schools in the 45-team race, while the men were 21st and seventh among D3 schools in their 45-team competition.

Senior Alexandra Krieg (Wellesley, Mass.) led the Middlebury women, placing seventh overall with a time of 18:02 in the 301-person race. First-year racer Claire McIlvennie (Ithaca, N.Y.) was next for the Panthers in 20th place in 18:27, followed by first-year racer Elise Moody-Roberts (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), who came in 47th with a time of 18:46. Classmate Cate Brown (Hanover, N.H.) placed 64th (18:59) in the race for the Panthers, while fellow rookie Chelsea Ward-Waller (San Antonio Texas) finished in 70th place in 19:04.

The men's squad saw all its scorers finish between 103rd and 128th place in the race in a solid pack. Sophomore Jack Terrett (Sherborn, Mass.) and first-year racer Michael Schmidt (Wilmette, Ill.) both finished with a time of 26:17, but placed 103rd and 105th respectively. Junior Peter Hoffman (Rochester, Minn.) came in 109th (26:19), followed by senior Jack Wambach (Evanston, Ill.) in 115th (26:26) and senior Rainey Johnson (St. Louis, Mo.) in 128th (26:31).
