Women's Soccer Defeats Keene State

Margaret Owen's first half goal was the difference as Middlebury shutout Keene State 1-0 in non-conference women's soccer action at Owl Athletic Complex on Tuesday night. Keene State drops to 5-3. Middlebury improves to 2-1-1.

The Owls were held to just one shot on goal in the game, while the Panthers finished the game with 10 shots. The Owls missed an opportunity to get on the board five minutes into the game, but Kendra Spencer's direct kick from just outside the box clanged off the cross bar.

Lindsay Walker had a couple of scoring chances for the Panthers. Walker's header was saved by Owl goalie Samantha Hirsh and her follow up shot just went wide of the far post.

The lone goal of the game came at the 16:42 mark of the first half when Owen floated a long shot from 40-yards out that went just under the cross bar and over the outstretched hands of Hirsh.

Walker had a chance to extend Middlebury's lead midway in the second half, but her shot from the right side hit off the cross bar. Carley Berger sent the rebound over the net.

Hirsh stopped nine shots for Keene, while Adele Plunkett and Lauren Torch each played a half in goal for Middlebury. Plunkett had one save.
