Men's Soccer

Midd. Blanks Plymouth

Vandy Shanholt scored two goals and Casey Ftorek contributed three assists Sunday afternoon as Middlebury College posted a 3-0 victory over Plymouth State University in a non-conference men's soccer game at Panther Field.

The visiting Panthers carried the play most of the afternoon, outshooting the host Panthers 16-4 for the game. Middlebury scored in the first three minutes to take the lead, extended it to 2-0 midway through the first half, and put Plymouth State away with a third goal early in the second half. Middlebury improves to 4-0-0 on the season, while PSU suffers its first loss of the campaign and drops to 3-1-1.

Ftorek set up Baer Fisher for Middlebury's first goal just 2:37 into the contest. Shanholt scored his first goal of the game in the 25th minute on a rebound from a shot by Ftorek, and noted his second of the afternoon in the 52nd minute, converting a throw-in from Ftorek.

Middlebury had another chance to extend its lead, but PSU keeper Tyler Shute stopped a penalty kick by David Lee. Shute finished with five saves for PSU, while Middlebury keeper Zack Toth made four saves to record the shutout.
