Panthers Compete At Open N.E.'s

The Panther cross country teams took part in the All-Division Open New England Cross Country Championships in Boston. The women turned in an amazing performance, placing third overall in the 46-team race. The men's team was also solid, finishing 22nd out of 45 teams competing.

Senior Erin Archard (Vienna, Maine) led the team once again, finishing 15th overall in 18:08, 45 seconds off the winning time. Senior Andrea Giddings (S. Portland, Maine) finished the race in 23rd (18:20), followed by sophomore Alexandra Krieg (Wellesley, Mass.) in 30th (18:29). Fourth for Middlebury and 50th overall (18:42) was senior Makely Lyon (Portland, Ore.), followed by senior Devyn Young (Antrim, N.H.) in 54th (18:46).

Junior Jimmy Butcher (Garden City, N.Y.) continued to pace the men's team, finishing 16th overall in 25:14, 57 seconds behind the winner. First-year runner Chris Free (Wallingford, Pa.) was next for the Panthers in 143rd place (26:29), followed by senior Will McDonough (Lancaster, N.H.) in 146th (26:31). First-year athlete Bruce Hallett (S. Londonderry, Vt.) came in 156th (26:36), while sophomore Jack Wambach (Evanston, Ill.) finished 161st (26:38).

The Middlebury cross country teams took part in the Open New England Championships at Franklin Park in Boston on Saturday. The women placed an impressive third in the 46-team race, while the men were 22nd out of 45 teams.
