The Middlebury College women's soccer team scored three goals in the game's final 20:05 to earn a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Connecticut College in their season-opener on Dragone Field. The Panthers return to action at Norwich on Wednesday.
Connecticut College took a 1-0 lead just 1:54 into the second half when Rachael Schefrin scored after a corner kick as she headed the ball in while Middlebury goalkeeper Adele Plunkett was attempting to make a save. The lead doubled at 50:25 as Jackie Wade scored with a header on a corner after Caeli Rubens' feed was deflected.
Middlebury began its comeback with a goal from Ashley Pfaff at the 69:55 mark. Ainsley Close tied the game at 81:11 as she put home a rebound after a shot from Carly Berger. Caitlin Fabian netted the game-winner with 3:07 remaining as her rocket, after a crossing pass from Close, deflected into the net off a defender just outside the goal line.
Plunkett ended the afternoon with a pair of saves, while Kate Simmons made 11 for the Camels.
