9/10/05 - The Panther men's soccer team opened up the '05 campaign with a 3-1 win over Connecticut College. Middlebury held a 16-5 shots advantage and will return to action on Wednesday when they host Castleton State at 4:30.
John Sales opened the scoring for the Panthers as Alex Elias flipped a pass that Sales fired into the far corner late in the first half. The lead would double at 60:08 as Baer Fisher drew out the keeper before sliding a quick pass to Billy Brennan who hit the open net. Connecticut College cut the lead in half at 72:36 as Rob Pannicia gained some room on the right side before scoring with a shot to the far corner. The Panthers answered just 16 seconds later as Vandy Shanholt scored in transition to make it a 3-1 final.
Zack Toth ended the game with a pair of saves for Middlebury, while Ted Lane and Andy White combined to make seven saves for Connecticut College.
