Middlebury dropped its second game in as many days as they fell at Amherst 2-1 on Sunday. The Panthers fall to 6-4-2 (3-3-2 NESCAC).
Middlebury tallied the first half's only score at the 28:20-mark when Erin Pittenger took a pass in space just inside the eighteen-yard box from Caity Abshere and snuck a shot past Amherst goalkeeper Piper Crowell and into the lower left corner.
The Panthers nearly took a 2-0 lead in the second stanza when Ashley Pfaff played a chip from twenty yards out on the right side in the 63rd minute, but Crowell just managed to get a hand on the ball and punched it away to keep the Jeffs within one and give them some much-needed momentum. Amherst tallied the equalizer just minutes later when Amy Armstrong played a long cross from the left corner onto the head of Lesley Pruzansky, who laid the ball off to an open Natalie Ferraiolo for the score. The Jeffs posted the game-winner when Alanna Darling received a pass from Pruzansky in space and ripped a left-footed blast into the lower left corner from twenty-five yards out.
Crowell finished with seven saves, while Middlebury counterpart Adele Plunkett tallied four.
