Middlebury ended its first semester unbeaten as they defeated Amherst, 5-0. The Panthers return to action when they host the Holiday Classic on January 1st and 2nd in the Kenyon Arena.
Amherst had a great chance to score early on as Jack Greeley's breakaway shot was stopped before the puck slid across the entire length of the goal line before being cleared. Middlebury took a 1-0 lead at 6:26 of the first period when Mickey Gilchrist made a nice feed to Jocko DeCarolis in transition for the game's first goal. Shady Young made it a 2-0 game at 10:48 when he intercepted a pass and skated in all alone before beating Josh Fillman. The lead moved to 3-0 at 16:45 as Eric LaFreniere tipped in a great crossing pass from Gilchrist on a two-on-one break.
The game would remain at 3-0 until the final 1:15, where Levi Doria and DeCarolis would score goals 35 seconds apart to seal the 5-0 win. Yen-I Chen made 22 saves in goal for Middlebury, while Fillman made 36 stops for the Jeffs.
