10/23/04 - Middlebury scored three first half goals on its way to a 3-2 victory over Bates. The Panthers are ranked third in the latest <?xml:namespace prefix = "st1" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />New England poll and 22nd nationally.
J.B. Gerber opened the scoring for the Panthers at 6:47 when he converted a flick pass from Winston Rains. Team scoring leader, John Rusten was able to find the back of the net at 21:14 to make it a 2-0 game. Rusten's penalty kick to the top left corner, was Middlebury's final goal of the game at 39:02 in the first half.
Bates got on the board at 59:04 in the second half when Terence O'Connell found Dan Bradford after a foul just outside the box. Philip Johnson scored the final goal of the game for Bates as time expired.
Craig Hirsh was solid in goal with seven saves for Middlebury, while James Kenly made two for Bates.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
