Hours of Operation - 360 Degree Virtual Tour
Middlebury’s newest athletic facility, Virtue Field House, opened in January of 2015 as part of the Peterson Family Athletics Complex.
Â
The 110,000-square-foot structure houses the New Balance Foundation Track, a 200-meter track with nine 60-meter sprint lanes. Dedicated jumping and vaulting areas beyond the oval for field events are also part of the facility, as is McCormick Field, a 21,000-square-foot Field Turf surface inside the track for varsity, club, intramural and recreational purposes as well as throwing events.Â
Â
The facility also features two locker rooms, a coaching suite and multiple batting cages. Goldsmith Lounge is located at the finish line of the track. With glass on three sides of the room, it serves as the timing center during track and field meets. Outside of competition, the room is multipurpose, utilized as a meeting space and an area for various fitness classes.
The massive field house, with more indoor area than a football field, also has numerous sustainability features including eight 24-foot-wide ceiling fans to circulate air, LED lighting, recycled material in the flooring, super-insulated walls and ceiling, abundant amounts of natural light and numerous spaces designed for multiple uses. The facility earned a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold designation in 2016 for the project from the U.S. Green Building Council.
Â
The field house and Bostwick Family Squash Center (which opened in October 2013) were fully funded by gifts from alumni, parents and other donors.
