  • Women's Cross Country Wins NCAA Championship

    The Middlebury women's cross country team has won its fourth NCAA Championship. The Panthers did so with 144 points, just one point ahead of NESCAC foe Amherst in the 32-team event. The race took place at the Voice of America Park, hosted by Wilmington College in West Chester, Ohio. The NCAA Championship is the 27th for Middlebury College in the last 12 years.
  • Butcher With Impressive Finish - Earns All-American Status

    Jimmy Butcher (Garden City, N.J.) turned in an amazing performance at the NCAA Championships. The junior, who placed 47th a year ago, finished the 279-man race in 34th place overall, with a time of 27:38. With the finish, Butcher earned All-American status at the races hosted by Wilmington College in West Chester, Ohio. He is Middlebury's first men's All-American since Joe McNulty in '71.

    The Middlebury women's cross country team is peaking at the right time as they won the 2006 NCAA New England Regional today at Springfield. The Panthers finished in first place among 48 teams, followed by Amherst, Williams and Tufts. The Middlebury men placed eighth of 45 teams.

    The Middlebury cross country teams took part in the ECAC Championships hosted by Williams last weekend. The Panthers, as well as several other teams, rested their top runners for the upcoming NCAA Regionals this weekend. The women's team placed fourth overall in the 35-team race, while the men were ninth among 40 teams.

    Four members of the Middlebury College cross country teams were honored today when the 2006 All-NESCAC teams were announced. Junior Jimmy Butcher (Garden City, N.Y.) earned second-team honors to represent the Middlebury men, while three Panther women made the team. Senior Andrea Giddings (S. Portland, Maine) earned first-team honors, while senior Erin Archard (Vienna, Maine) and sophomore Alexandra Krieg (Wellesley, Mass.) were second-team selections.

    HADLEY, Mass. - Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, Conn., will be the setting this Saturday for the 2006 NESCAC Cross Country Championships hosted by Connecticut College. The event will begin with the men's championship race at 11:00 a.m. and will be followed shortly afterwards by the women's championship race at 11:45 a.m. The presentation of the NESCAC Championship trophies will take place at 1:15 p.m.

    The Middlebury cross country teams were in action at the Albany Invitational over the weekend, a meet featuring Division I, II and III teams. The women finished third in the 22-team race, second only to a school from Canada (Univ. of Gualph) and Division I UNH. The women are ranked fifth in the latest national poll. The men's team eighth, fourth among D3 teams, in the 27-team race.

    The Panther cross country teams took part in the All-Division Open New England Cross Country Championships in Boston. The women turned in an amazing performance, placing third overall in the 46-team race. The men's team was also solid, finishing 22nd out of 45 teams competing.

    The Middlebury cross country teams both cruised to victories at the State Championship Meets hosted by St. Michael's College. The men placed eight of the top 10 racers, while the women owned eight of the top nine finishers.
