Two members of the Middlebury College volleyball team were honored when the NEWVA (New England Women's Volleyball Association) announced its All-Region teams. Senior Gigi Alper (Mill Valley, Calif.) was a First-Team All-New England selection, while sophomore Corley Doyle (San Francisco, Calif.) was an honorable mention honoree. The duo helped lead the Panthers to a 15-10 record and an appearance in the NESCAC semifinals.
Alper led the team and was third in the NESCAC in both digs (492) and digs per set (5.53). Her 492 digs this fall are eighth-most in a single season at Middlebury, while her 5.53 digs per set were fourth on the list. Alper added 89 assists while playing in all 25 matches this fall. The senior finished her career ranking third all-time at Middlebury in digs (1,609) and second in digs per set (4.70). Alper was also selected to take part in the NEWVA Senior All-Star Classic.
Doyle paced the team and was fourth in the NESCAC with 70 blocks this season. Her blocks/set average was .79, placing her first on the team and eighth in the league. The middle hitter was very effective on the attack, ranking second on the squad and sixth in the NESCAC with a .337 hitting percentage. She finished the year with 2.13 kills/set, second among her teammates.
