Middlebury claimed the final two sets on Saturday, earning a 3-1 road triumph over Trinity (3-3, 0-1) in Oosting Gymnasium. The Panthers (4-2, 2-0) return to action Tuesday with a non-conference match at St. Michael's beginning at 7:00 p.m.
The Panthers took the opening set by a 25-23 score, but the Bantams evened the match with a 25-19 victory in set number two. Middlebury closed the match with set victories by tallies of 25-19 and 25-18.
Isabel Sessions led the Middlebury offense with 17 kills, while Becca Raffel managed a double-double consisting of 14 kills and 12 digs. She has now rattled off five-straight double-doubles for the Panthers. Eliana Schaefer aided the attack with eight kills, while Chellsa Ferdinand handed out 39 assists to go along with a match-high three service aces.
Trinity was paced by Rachel Underwood and Colette Scheffers with 13 kills apiece, while Hanna Engstrom was also in double figures with 11. Rebecca Chu tallied a double-double of 42 assists and 14 digs, while Ali Odermann ended the match with 15 digs for the Continentals. Engstrom chipped in with 11 digs, while Claudia Varner recorded two block solos and two block assists for the hosts.
