  • Panther Volleyball Lauded by AVCA for Classroom Work
    August 03, 2017
    The Middlebury volleyball team continued its run of excellence in the classroom by earning the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award. The Panthers posted a team grade point average of 3.66 in 2016-17, placing them in the top-25 spots among the 150 Division III schools recognized. In total, a record-high 822 collegiate and high school teams were recognized for their hard work in the award’s 25th year of existence.
  • Seven Panthers Inducted to Phi Beta Kappa

    Seven Middlebury athletes were recently inducted into the College's Phi Beta Kappa chapter. Tom Dils (men's soccer) and Hannah Blackburn (volleyball) join honorees Noel Antonisse (men's swimming & diving), James Burke (football), Melanie English (volleyball), Kate Reinmuth (women's soccer) and Day Robins (women's soccer) who were inducted during the Fall Family Weekend in October.
  • NESCAC Fall All-Academic Team Members Honored

    The New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) has announced its 2016 Fall All-Academic Selections. To be honored, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic standing and be a varsity letter winner with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.40. A transfer student must have completed one year of study at the institution. The following are Middlebury's 99 representatives, the highest total among the 11 conference institutions.
  • NESCAC Fall All-Sportsmanship Teams Announced

    The New England Small College Athletic Conference announced its Fall All-Sportsmanship Team for each fall sport sponsored by the conference. The All-Sportsmanship Team is composed of one student-athlete from each institution for each sport and is selected by the players and coaches from their respective team for their positive contributions to sportsmanship. The student-athlete selected must be in good academic standing and a member of the team at the conclusion of the season in order to be eligible for selection.
  • Raffel Tabbed AVCA Honorable Mention All-American

    Middlebury volleyball junior Becca Raffel (Palo Alto, Calif.) added another accolade when she was named Honorable Mention All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for the second-straight season. She was also recently tabbed as a First-Team All-Northeast Region last week for the second-consecutive year.

    Two members of the Middlebury College volleyball team were honored when the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) handed out postseason honors. Junior Becca Raffel (Palo Alto, Calif.) was a first-team All-Northeast Region selection for the second-consecutive year, while sophomore Sarah Staver (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) earned a spot on the second team. The duo is a part of a Panther team that claimed the fifth NESCAC Championship in the program’s history and will play in the Brockport regional this weekend.
  • Middlebury Ends Season With Five-Set NCAA Setback to Ithaca

    Middlebury fought all the way back from a two-set deficit, but Ithaca edged the Panthers in five sets (27-25, 26-24, 21-25, 18-25, 16-14) on Friday evening during an NCAA Regional hosted by SUNY Brockport in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium. The Bombers (27-5), who received votes in the latest AVCA national poll, advance to the regional semifinals where they play the winner of a match between Gallaudet and the host Golden Eagles. The Panthers conclude their season with an 18-9 record.
  • Four Panthers Earn All-NESCAC Volleyball Accolades

    Four Middlebury College volleyball players were honored when the league announced its All-NESCAC recipients. Junior Becca Raffel (Palo Alto, Calif.) was named to the conference’s first team for the second-straight season, while senior Hannah Blackburn (Chapel Hill, N.C.) along with sophomores Isabel Sessions (Chicago, Ill.) and Sarah Staver (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) each picked up second-team honors. The quartet is a part of a Panther team that claimed the fifth NESCAC Championship in the program’s history and will play in the Brockport regional this weekend.
  • Volleyball Earns NCAA Bid - Panthers Headed to Brockport

    The Middlebury College women’s volleyball team will make its fifth overall NCAA Tournament appearance, when the Panthers travel to Brockport, New York for an NCAA Regional. The matches will take place Friday-Sunday, November 11-13, with the winner advancing to the NCAA Quarterfinals. SUNY Brockport will serve as the host school for the event.
  • Blackburn Named NESCAC Player of the Week

    Middlebury College volleyball player Hannah Blackburn (Chapel Hill, N.C.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week. The senior setter helped lead the Panthers to the program’s fifth NESCAC Championship with a thrilling five-set victory on Sunday over Tufts. The senior setter averaged team-best totals of 8.50 assists per set and 5.50 digs per set to go along with three service aces during Middlebury’s three victories. Blackburn posted a career-high 29 digs in Sunday’s victory over the Jumbos.
  • Middlebury Defeats Tufts in Thrilling NESCAC Championship

    Second-seeded Middlebury claimed its fifth NESCAC Championship in the program’s history with a five-set victory (14-25, 25-19, 25-19, 24-26, 15-11) over top-seeded Tufts (24-3) on Sunday in Cousens Gymnasium. Middlebury (18-8) earns the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and will find out its opponent when the field is announced Monday afternoon. The Jumbos, who received votes in the latest AVCA national poll, are likely to receive an at-large bid. The Panthers also won the league’s title in 1997, 1998, 2010 and 2012.
  • Panthers Advance to NESCAC Championship, Raunecker Wins 400th

    Second-seeded Middlebury advanced to the NESCAC Championship for the first time since 2012 with a straight-set victory (25-22, 25-16, 25-23) in the NESCAC Semifinals over third-seeded Amherst on Saturday at Tufts. With the victory, Panther head coach Sarah Raunecker earned her 400th career win. Raunecker, who is in her 22nd season, improved her career mark to 400-217. The Panthers (17-8) play the top-seeded Jumbos on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. with the winner earning the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Tufts earned a spot in the final with a four-set triumph over Bowdoin in the other semifinal.
  • Panthers Advance to NESCAC Semifinals Via Win Over Bates
    November 04, 2016
    Second-seeded Middlebury advanced to the NESCAC Tournament semifinals with a four-set victory (25-21, 22-25, 25-22, 25-21) over seventh-seeded Bates on Friday evening at Tufts. The Panthers improve to 16-8 and will play third-seeded Amherst on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m., while the Bobcats end their season at 11-14. The other semifinal will pit the top-seeded Jumbos and #4 seed Bowdoin on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
  • Volleyball Begins Quest for Third NESCAC Title in Seven Years

    Looking for its third NESCAC Volleyball Tournament title in seven years, second-seeded Middlebury begins its quest when it squares off with seventh-seeded Bates on Friday evening at 5:00 p.m. in a quarterfinal match. The two teams played last Saturday in Maine, as the Bobcats hung on for a four-set victory (25-11, 25-15, 16-25, 25-17). Semifinal matches will be played on Saturday, November 5 followed by the championship match on Sunday, November 6 hosted by Tufts in Cousens Gymnasium.
  • Middlebury Falls to Bates in Regular-Season Finale

    The Middlebury volleyball team capped the regular season Saturday with a 3-1 (25-11, 25-15, 16-26, 25-17) setback at Bates. The Panthers (15-8, 7-3) earned the second seed in next and open with the seventh-seeded Bobcats (15-15, 5-5) in weekend’s NESCAC Tournament, which Tufts will host starting on Friday.
  • Panthers Cruise Past Colby in Three Sets

    The Middlebury volleyball team eased past host Colby in straight sets Friday evening during NESCAC play in Wadsworth Gymnasium (25-15, 25-21, 25-15). The Panthers (15-7, 7-2) concludes their regular-season schedule Saturday with a conference match against Bates at 2:00 p.m.
  • Middlebury Drops Two on Second Day of New England Challenge

    The Middlebury volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday during the final day of the New England Challenge hosted by MIT. In the day's first contest, the Panthers (14-7) lost to Springfield in three sets (25-16, 25-13, 25-18) and were bested in the afternoon by the host Engineers in straight sets (25-18, 25-22, 25-16). Both of Middlebury's opponents on Saturday received votes in last week's AVCA national poll. The Panthers conclude their NESCAC regular-season schedule next weekend when play at Colby on Friday at 8:00 p.m., followed on Saturday with a match against Bates at 2:00 p.m.
  • Panthers Fall to Babson on Day One of New England Challenge

    Middlebury opened play during the two-day New England Challenge with a 3-1 setback Friday evening to Babson (14-9) by scores of 25-23, 25-20, 24-26 and 25-14 in Staake Gymnasium. The Panthers (14-5) return to action Saturday, playing a 10:30 a.m. match against Springfield at MIT followed by a 3:00 p.m. contest with the Engineers.

    Middlebury and Williams split the first two sets on Saturday before the Panthers grabbed the final two for a 3-1 victory (25-21, 18-25, 25-20, 25-20) during the home regular-season finale in Pepin Gymnasium. The Panthers (14-4, 6-2) return to the court Friday when they play Babson at 7:00 p.m. as a part of the New England Challenge, while Williams (10-8, 5-3) travels to MIT at the same time.

    The Middlebury volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep over hosting Skidmore on Tuesday, winning by scores of 25-23, 25-17, 25-23. The victory elevated the Panthers to 12-4 on the season, while the Thoroughbreds fell to 11-13. Middlebury returns home for a NESCAC matchup with Amherst Friday at 7:00 p.m. in Pepin Gymnasium.

    The Middlebury volleyball team ran its winning streak to seven-straight matches as it picked up two victories Saturday as part of a tri-match at UMass.-Boston’s Clark Athletic Gymnasium. The Panthers (10-3) earned a hard-fought 3-1 triumph in the first match over Babson, and followed that with a grueling five-set victory over the host Beacons. Middlebury has nearly a week off before it returns to the court Friday when the Panthers host Bowdoin for an 8:00 p.m. NESCAC match.

    Middlebury recorded its fifth-consecutive victory, earning a 3-1 road triumph over Connecticut College (7-4, 2-1) Friday evening in the Luce Field House. The Panthers (8-3, 3-1) return to action Saturday with a pair of non-conference matches taking place at UMass.-Boston. Middlebury plays Babson at 1:00 p.m. followed by a 3:00 p.m. contest against the host Beacons.

The Panthers (6-3) have won three-straight matches and return to action when they travel Tuesday to Colby-Sawyer for a 7:00 p.m. match, while St. Lawrence hosts Potsdam on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.

    Middlebury opened the home portion of its 2016 schedule with a three-set home sweep (25-19, 25-23, 25-12) of in-state foe St. Michael's Wednesday evening in Pepin Gymnasium. The Panthers (4-3) return to the court Friday when they jump back into NESCAC play with an 8:00 p.m. home conference match against Hamilton, while St. Michael's entertains Merrimack on Saturday.
