Panthers Run Win Streak to Seven With 3-0 Victory Over Trinity

The Middlebury volleyball team picked up its seventh-straight victory with a three-set road sweep (25-13, 25-19, 25-23) of NESCAC foe Trinity Friday evening inside the Oosting Gymnasium. The Panthers (10-2, 2-1) return to the court Saturday when they stay in Connecticut for a 2:00 p.m. conference match against Wesleyan.

Middlebury raced to a 9-2 lead in the opening set and finished with a 25-13 win to go ahead, 1-0.  The second set was tied at 17-17 before the Panthers scored four points in a row en route to the 25-19 second-set victory. 

Trinity (4-7, 0-4) led by a 5-1 score in the early stages of the third set, but the Panthers used a 5-0 run to take a 6-5 lead. Later in the set with Trinity clinging to a two-point edge at 23-21, Middlebury scored the match's final four points to complete the sweep. Becca Raffel scored two of those four points for the visitors, including a kill for the final tally.

Raffel paced the Middlebury offense, finishing with match-best totals of 13 kills and three service aces. Isabel Sessions ended her night adding 10 kills, while Melanie English and Gabi Rosenfeld chipped in with seven and six kills, respectively.

Hannah Blackburn handed out 25 assists for the visitors to go along with eight digs. Emily Kolodka dug up 17 balls and had two service aces, while Charlotte Devine also wound up in double figures with 12 digs. English had two solo blocks and a block assist at the net for the Panthers.

Trinity was paced by Hunter Drews and Rachel Underwood with seven kills apiece, while Underwood also added 11 digs. Gina Buzzelli posted 14 assists and Claudia Varner had three kills, an ace and a pair of block solos.
