  • Panther Volleyball Recognized by AVCA for Classroom Work

    The Middlebury volleyball team continued its run of excellence in the classroom by earning the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award. The Panthers posted a team grade point average of 3.65 in 2015-16, placing them third among the 144 Division III schools recognized. In total, a record-high 762 collegiate and high school teams were recognized for their hard work.
  • NESCAC Fall All-Sportsmanship Team Announced

    The New England Small College Athletic Conference announced its Fall All-Sportsmanship Team for each fall sport sponsored by the conference. The All-Sportsmanship Team is composed of one student-athlete from each institution for each sport and is selected by the players and coaches from their respective team for their positive contributions to sportsmanship. The student-athlete selected must be in good academic standing and a member of the team at the conclusion of the season in order to be eligible for selection.
  • NESCAC Fall All-Academic Team Announced

    The New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) has announced its 2015 Fall All-Academic Selections. To be honored, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic standing and be a varsity letter winner with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.35. A transfer student must have completed one year of study at the institution. The following are Middlebury’s 92 representatives.
  • Three Panthers Earn All-Region Volleyball Honors

    Three members of the Middlebury College women’s volleyball team were honored when the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and New England Women’s Volleyball Association (NEWVA) handed out postseason honors. Sophomore Becca Raffel (Palo Alto, Calif.) was a first-team All-Northeast Region and honorable mention All-American by the AVCA, while being named to the NEWVA second-team All-Region squad. Junior Hannah Blackburn (Chapel Hill, N.C.) was an honorable mention All-Region selection by both the AVCA and NEWVA, while rookie Isabel Sessions (Chicago, Ill.) was named to the NEWVA All-Rookie team.
  • Raffel and Blackburn Earn All-NESCAC Volleyball Accolades

    A pair of Middlebury College volleyball players were honored when the league announced its All-NESCAC honors. Sophomore Becca Raffel (Palo Alto, Calif.) was named to the conference’s first team, while junior Hannah Blackburn (Chapel Hill, N.C.) earned second-team honors for the second time in her career. The duo was a part of a Panther team that finished the season with an 18-7 record, advancing to the NESCAC Semifinals.
  • Volleyball Team Falls to Bowdoin in NESCAC Semis

    The Middlebury volleyball team saw its season come to an end with a 3-0 (25-21, 26-24, 25-12) loss at Bowdoin in a NESCAC semifinal contest. The first two sets were tightly-contested before the Polar Bears pulled away in the third. The Panthers finish the season with an 18-7 mark.
  • Volleyball Advances to NESCAC Semifinals Via Win Over Tufts

    The fourth-seeded Middlebury volleyball team advanced to the NESCAC Tournament semifinals with a four-set victory (25-21, 25-20, 19-25, 25-16) over fifth-seeded Tufts on Friday evening at Bowdoin. The Panthers improve to 18-6 and will play the top-seeded Polar Bears on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m., while the Jumbos fall to 17-8. The other semifinal will pit second-seeded Williams taking on third-seeded Amherst on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
  • English Selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

    Middlebury College volleyball player Melanie English (Montgomery Village, Md.) has been named a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) District I First-Team Academic All-District selection by the organization. The junior boasts a 3.92 grade point average as a history major.
  • Volleyball Starts Quest for Second NESCAC Title in Four Years

    Looking for its second NESCAC Volleyball Tournament title in four years, fourth-seeded Middlebury begins its quest when it squares off with fifth-seeded Tufts on Friday evening at 8:00 p.m. in a quarterfinal match. The two teams played last Saturday inside Pepin Gymnasium, as the Panthers hung on for a four-set victory (22-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-19). Semifinal matches will be played on Saturday, November 7 followed by the championship match on Sunday, November 8 hosted by Bowdoin.
  • Middlebury Defeats Tufts in Four Sets to Conclude Regular Season

    The Middlebury volleyball team defeated Tufts by a 3-1 score Saturday afternoon inside Pepin Gymnasium by scores of 22-25, 25-23, 25-20 and 25-19. With both teams posting identical 7-3 NESCAC records, Middlebury (17-6) earns the fourth seed for the upcoming NESCAC Tournament and will face the Jumbos again next Friday at 8:00 p.m. in the NESCAC Quarterfinals at Bowdoin.
  • Middlebury Falls to Connecticut College in Three Sets

    The Middlebury volleyball team fell in straight sets Friday evening inside Pepin Gymnasium to visiting Connecticut College in an NESCAC contest (27-25, 25-20, 28-26). Middlebury (16-6, 6-3) returns to the home court and concludes its regular-season schedule Saturday with a key NESCAC match against Tufts at 2:00 p.m., while Connecticut College (16-6, 5-4) is on the road at Hamilton.
  • Volleyball Splits on Second Day of New England Challenge

    The Middlebury volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday during the final day of the New England Challenge hosted by MIT. In the day's first contest, the Panthers (16-5) cruised past Babson in three sets, but fell in their second match to Wellesley, 3-1. The Panthers conclude their NESCAC regular-season schedule next weekend when they host Connecticut College on Friday at 8:00 p.m., followed on Saturday with a match against Tufts at 2:00 p.m.
  • Volleyball Falls to #23 MIT on Day One of New England Challenge

    The Middlebury volleyball team opened play during the two-day New England Challenge with a 3-0 setback Friday evening at host and 23rd-ranked MIT by scores of 25-20, 25-19 and 25-22 inside the Rockwell Cage. The Panthers (15-4) return to action Saturday and will take on Babson at 11:00 a.m. followed by a 3:00 p.m. contest with Wellesley.
  • Women's Volleyball Completes Maine Sweep

    Becca Raffel had 16 kills as Middlebury won for the 13th time in 14 outings, defeating Bates 3-1 (25-19,15-25,25-14,25-16) in NESCAC action Saturday afternoon in Alumni Gym. The Panthers sit in a four-way tie for second place in the NESCAC standings with a 6-2 mark. Middlebury returns to action next Friday night with a match at M.I.T.
  • Volleyball Records Five-Set NESCAC Victory Over Colby

    The Middlebury volleyball team grabbed a key NESCAC win Friday with a 3-2 road triumph (22-25, 25-23, 25-16, 17-25, 15-11) over host Colby inside Wadsworth Gymnasium. Middlebury (14-3, 5-2) returns to the court in Maine on Saturday for another pivotal league match with Bates at 2:00 p.m.
  • Panther Volleyball Comeback Bid Falls Just Short Against Williams

    Trailing two sets to none at home against Williams in Saturday afternoon’s NESCAC volleyball match, Middlebury won the third and fourth sets before falling in the decisive fifth set (25-21, 25-18, 25-27,18-25, 15-12) to the visiting Ephs. Middlebury (13-3, 4-2), which sees its 10-match winning streak snapped, returns to the court Friday with an 8:00 p.m. match at Colby, while Williams (13-5, 6-1) hosts UMass-Boston at the same time.

Middlebury (12-2) returns to the court Friday when it hosts NESCAC foe Amherst at 8:00 p.m., while Skidmore (5-15) takes part in the Union Invitational on Saturday.
  • Volleyball Makes It Eight Straight With Road Win at Wesleyan

    The Middlebury women's volleyball team won its eight-straight match on Saturday, topping Wesleyan 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-18) in a NESCAC contest in Connecticut. Becca Raffel had a match-high 19 kills to lead the team to the victory. The Panthers are now 11-2 overall with a 3-1 mark in NESCAC play, while the Cardinals fall to 4-7 and 1-4 in the league. Middlebury returns to action on Tuesday night when it hosts Skidmore at 7:00 p.m.
  • Panthers Run Win Streak to Seven With 3-0 Victory Over Trinity

    The Middlebury volleyball team picked up its seventh-straight victory with a three-set road sweep (25-13, 25-19, 25-23) of NESCAC foe Trinity Friday evening inside the Oosting Gymnasium. The Panthers (10-2, 2-1) return to the court Saturday when they stay in Connecticut for a 2:00 p.m. conference match against Wesleyan.
  • Raffel Named NESCAC Player of the Week

    Middlebury College women's volleyball player Becca Raffel (Palo Alto, Calif.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week. The sophomore averaged 4.12 kills per set and hit .316 in a 4-0 week for the Panthers. She also averaged 2.35 digs per set and had three blocks. Her steady week saw her earn 17 or more kills in each match, including a .349 hitting percentage in a 3-1 win at Hamilton on Friday night. Raffel and the Panthers return to action on Friday night for a NESCAC match at Trinity.
  • Middlebury Tallies Pair of Wins During Skidmore Classic

    The Middlebury volleyball team ran its winning streak to six-straight matches as it picked up two victories Saturday as part of the Skidmore Classic. The Panthers (9-2) earned a hard-fought 3-2 victory in the first match over Ramapo, and followed that with a four-set victory over Sage. Middlebury has nearly a week off before it returns to the court Friday when the Panthers hit the road for an 8:00 p.m. NESCAC match at Trinity.

    The Middlebury volleyball team earned a four-set NESCAC victory over host Hamilton on Friday evening inside the Margaret Bundy Scott Field House. The Panthers (7-2, 1-1) return to the court Saturday when they take part in the Skidmore Classic against Ramapo at 1:00 p.m. and Sage at 3:00 p.m.

    The Middlebury women’s volleyball team won its third-straight match as the Panthers (6-2) picked up a 3-1 (25-23, 25-19, 22-25, 25-14) win over in-state foe St. Michael’s (5-3) on Wednesday night. Middlebury returns to action Friday night when it visits Hamilton.
  • Volleyball Sweeps Both Ends of Home Tri-Match

    Hosting its lone tri-match of the season, the Middlebury volleyball team swept both ends on Saturday inside Pepin Gymnasium. The Panthers (5-2) earned a hard-fought 3-2 victory (25-18, 25-16, 22-25, 22-25, 15-13) in the first match over Cortland State, and followed that with a three-set victory over Colby-Sawyer (25-10, 25-17, 25-14). Middlebury returns to the court Wednesday when it travels north to take on St. Michael’s at 7:00 p.m.
  • Panthers Open NESCAC Play With Four-Set Loss to Bowdoin

    The Middlebury volleyball team fell to visiting Bowdoin by a 3-1 score (25-21, 25-22, 23-25, 25-18) on Friday evening inside Pepin Gymnasium in the NESCAC opener for both teams. The Panthers (3-2, 0-1) return to the court Saturday when they host a tri-match, squaring off with Cortland State at 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. against Colby-Sawyer. Bowdoin (3-3, 1-0) continues NESCAC play on the road Saturday against Hamilton at 2:00 p.m.

    The Middlebury women's volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season on Tuesday night, falling by a score of 3-2 (18-25, 25-20, 23-25, 25-20, 15-11) at Union (9-1). The Panthers (3-1) return to action on Friday night when they open NESCAC play against Bowdoin at 8:00 p.m. inside Pepin Gym.
  • Volleyball Sweeps Two at Smith Invitational to Open 3-0

    The Middlebury women’s volleyball team completed a perfect opening weekend at the Smith Invitational, topping Ursinus 3-0 (9, 11, 7) before defeating the host school by the same score (16, 12, 18) on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers return to action on Tuesday night at Union.
  • Panther Volleyball Team Starts 2015 With A Straight-Set Victory

    The Middlebury volleyball team began its 2015 season with a three-set win over Manhattanville (4-1) on Friday evening as part of the Smith Invitational. The Panthers (1-0) return to the courts and will play twice on Saturday against Ursinus and the host Pioneers at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., respectively.
