Blackburn & Raffel Earn NESCAC Honors, Raffel Is Rookie Of The Year

A pair of Middlebury College volleyball players was honored when the league announced its end of the year awards. First-year player Becca Raffel (Palo Alto, Calif.) was named the NESCAC Co-Rookie of the Year, while sophomore Hannah Blackburn (Chapel Hill, N.C.) earned second-team honors. The duo were part of a Panther team that finished the season with an even 12-12 mark.

Despite missing the first six matches of the season, Raffel came on strong and made an impact during her rookie season. She finished the season with a team-best 2.78 kills/set, ranking her eighth among her NESCAC peers. Raffel also earned 91 digs in 2014, while picking up 17 total blocks. She earned a season-high 19 kills against Plymouth State, while earning 11 or more kills in a match nine times this season. Her top performance of the season came against Colby, while she hit at a .423 clip with 15 kills in the victory.

Blackburn finished second in the NESCAC with 9.53 assists/set this season, dishing out 839 overall. She led the squad with 44 services aces, placing her 10th in the league. Blackburn also earned 244 digs (2.55/set) and chipped in with 32 kills. She earned a season-best 46 assists on September 16th vs. Union, nine times dishing out 40 or more in a match.
