Panthers Open Hall of Fame Tournament with Win Over Brandeis

The Middlebury volleyball team opened play during the two-day Hall of Fame Tournament with a 3-1 victory Friday over Brandeis inside Amherst's LeFrak Gymnasium. The Panthers take on M.I.T. at Amherst with a noon start, while facing Springfield at Smith in a 4:00 p.m. match.

Against the Judges, the Panthers grabbed the opening set by a 25-14 count. Brandeis tied up the match at 1-1 with a 25-21 win in set number two. Middlebury took the match with convincing wins in sets three (25-17) and four (25-13).

Emily Kolodka paced a balanced Middlebury attack with 11 kills and added three service aces, while older sister Olivia Kolodka chipped in with eight, hitting .381 for the match. Becca Raffel had seven kills, Katie Chamberlain tallied a season-high six service aces and Hannah Blackburn dished out 30 assists.

Defensively, E. Kolodka paced the Panther effort completing her double-double with 16 digs, while Blackburn chipped in with 10 for a double-double. Piper Underbrink had a pair of block solos, while Gabi Rosenfeld had three block assists.
