  • Panthers Recognized by AVCA for Work in the Classroom

    The Middlebury volleyball team continued its run of excellence in the classroom by earning the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award. The Panthers posted a team grade point average of 3.64 in 2014-15, placing them seventh among the 142 Division III schools recognized. In total, a record-high 752 teams were recognized for their hard work.
  • All-NESCAC Academic Team Announced

    The New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) has announced its 2014 Fall All-Academic Selections. To be honored, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic standing and be a varsity letter winner with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.35. A transfer student must have completed one year of study at the institution. The following are Middlebury’s representatives.
  • Blackburn & Raffel Earn NESCAC Honors, Raffel Is Rookie Of The Year

    A pair of Middlebury College volleyball players were honored when the league announced its end of the year awards. First-year player Becca Raffel (Palo Alto, Calif.) was named the NESCAC Co-Rookie of the Year, while sophomore Hannah Blackburn (Chapel Hill, N.C.) earned second-team honors. The duo were part of a Panther team that finished the season with an even 12-12 mark.
  • Panther Volleyball Concludes Season in NESCAC Quarterfinal

    The Middlebury volleyball team, seeded #4, saw its season come to an end with a 3-1 (25-18, 18-25, 25-22, 25-23) loss to fifth-seeded Bowdoin in a NESCAC Quarterfinal match played at Tufts. The Panthers finish the season with a final record of 12-12.
  • Volleyball Starts Quest for Second NESCAC Title in Three Years

    Looking for its second NESCAC Tournament title in the last three years, the fourth-seeded Middlebury volleyball team begins its quest when it squares off with fifth-seeded Bowdoin on Friday evening at 8:00 p.m. hosted by Tufts. The two teams played on October 10 inside Pepin Gymnasium, as Middlebury hung on for a five-set victory (22-25, 25-14, 26-24, 15-25, 15-13). Semifinal matches will be played on Saturday, November 8 followed by the championship match on Sunday, November 9.
  • Volleyball Closes Out Regular Season with Four-Set Loss to Tufts

    The Middlebury volleyball team was defeated by visiting Tufts in a NESCAC matchup Saturday afternoon inside Pepin Gymnasium by scores of 25-16, 25-13, 20-25 and 25-19. Middlebury (12-11, 6-4) will be the number four seed in next weekend’s NESCAC Tournament and will battle fifth-seeded Bowdoin on Friday at 8:00 p.m., while Tufts (19-7, 9-1) grabbed the top seed with today’s win and will host the tournament. The Jumbos will take on eighth-seeded Trinity at 5:00 p.m.
  • Middlebury Secures Top-Four NESCAC Seed, Eases Past Connecticut College

    The Middlebury volleyball team eased past visiting Connecticut College in a key NESCAC matchup Friday evening inside Pepin Gymnasium by scores of 25-18, 25-20 and 25-13. With the win, Middlebury (12-10, 6-3) secures a top-four seed and concludes the regular-season portion of its schedule Saturday against Tufts at 2:00 p.m., while Connecticut College (13-10, 4-5) travels to Hamilton.
  • Volleyball Splits Pair of Five-Set Matches at Hall of Fame Tournament

    The Middlebury volleyball team split a pair of five-set matches Saturday during the final day of the Hall of Fame Tournament. In the day's first contest, the Panthers (11-10) edged by M.I.T. by a 3-2 score in a match played at Amherst, but fell in their second match at Smith to Springfield, 3-2. The Panthers conclude their NESCAC regular-season schedule next weekend when they host Connecticut College on Friday at 8:00 p.m., followed on Saturday with a match against Tufts at 2:00 p.m.
  • Panthers Open Hall of Fame Tournament with Win Over Brandeis

    The Middlebury volleyball team opened play during the two-day Hall of Fame Tournament with a 3-1 victory Friday over Brandeis inside Amherst's LeFrak Gymnasium. The Panthers take on M.I.T. at Amherst with a noon start, while facing Springfield at Smith in a 4:00 p.m. match.
  • Plymouth State Edges Middlebury in Five-Set Thriller

    Middlebury won two of the three opening sets during Wednesday's match with visiting Plymouth State (11-15), but the visitors rallied and took the fourth and fifth for the 3-2 victory inside Pepin Gym. Plymouth State was victorious by set scores of 15-25, 25-21, 27-29, 25-21 and 15-13. Middlebury (9-9) returns to action on Friday against Brandeis at 5:00 p.m. as part of the Hall of Fame Tournament at Amherst/Smith, while Plymouth State plays Eastern Connecticut and WPI on Saturday.
  • Volleyball Comes From a Set Down for 3-1 Victory at Wesleyan

    Middlebury lost the opening set on Saturday afternoon against host Wesleyan, but the Panthers rebounded with three-straight set victories for a 3-1 win by scores of 16-25, 25-18, 25-16 and 25-15 inside Silloway Gymnasium. The Panthers (9-8, 5-3) return home Wednesday to take on Plymouth State at 7:00 p.m., while Wesleyan (10-9, 2-7) is idle until next Friday and Saturday for the Hall of Fame Classic.
  • Volleyball Cruises Past Trinity in Road NESCAC Contest

    Middlebury picked up its fourth victory in its last five matches with a 3-0 win Friday evening over host Trinity by scores of 25-18, 25-14 and 25-19 inside Oosting Gymnasium. The Panthers (8-8, 4-3) return to the court on Saturday when they stay in Connecticut for a 2:00 p.m. match with Wesleyan, while Trinity (11-7, 3-5) hosts Hamilton.
  • Volleyball Drops Match at Colby-Sawyer

    The Middlebury women’s volleyball team saw its three-match winning streak come to an end with a 3-1 (26-24, 25-23, 20-25, 25-19) loss at Colby-Sawyer (17-8) on Tuesday night. The win for the Chargers was their first over the Panthers since 2008. Middlebury (7-8) returns to action on Friday night with an 8:00 p.m. match at Trinity.
  • Volleyball Cruises To 3-0 Win Over Colby
    October 11, 2014
    Middlebury won its third-straight match, as the Panthers (7-7, 3-3) picked up a 3-0 victory over Colby (9-9, 1-6) in Pepin Gym on Saturday afternoon. Middlebury cruised in the first set 25-12, earning 25-21 and 25-20 wins in the second and third sets to emerge with the win. The Panthers return to action at Colby-Sawyer on Tuesday, while the Mules play three matches at MIT on Friday and Saturday.
  • Volleyball Hangs On for Five-Set Victory Over Bowdoin

    After holding a two sets to one lead, the Middlebury volleyball team hung on Friday evening for a five-set NESCAC victory over visiting Bowdoin by scores of 22-25, 25-14, 26-24, 15-25 and 15-13 inside Pepin Gymnasium. The Panthers (6-7, 2-3) return to the court on Saturday when they host Colby at 2:00 p.m., while Bowdoin (12-5, 3-3) travels west to New York for a 2:00 p.m. conference match at Hamilton.
  • Panther Volleyball Eases Past Skidmore

    The Middlebury volleyball team eased past host Skidmore on Wednesday evening inside the Williamson Center by scores of 25-20, 25-17 and 25-20. The Panthers (5-7) return to the court Friday evening when they play host to NESCAC foe Bowdoin at 8:00 p.m., followed by a 2:00 p.m. Saturday home match with Colby.

    The Panther volleyball team dropped its second match in as many days as Middlebury fell 3-1 at Williams. The loss drops the Panthers’ record to 4-7, 1-3 in NESCAC play, while the Ephs move to 13-1 overall, 5-1 in the league.
  • Volleyball Suffers 3-1 Loss at Amherst

    The Middlebury women’s volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (25-16, 20-25, 16-25, 22-25) NESCAC road match at Amherst (10-4, 3-4) on Friday night. The Panthers (4-6, 1-2) return to action on Saturday when they visit Williams for a 2:00 p.m. match.
  • Volleyball Takes Two at Skidmore Classic

    The Middlebury women's volleyball team made it three wins in its last four contests after taking a pair on Saturday afternoon at the Skidmore Classic. The Panthers earned a 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-15) victory over St. John Fisher, before topping the host school by the same score (25-15, 25-23, 25-16). Emily Kolodka and Hannah Blackburn were both named to the all-tournament team.
  • Volleyball Falls to Hamilton During NESCAC Match

    The Middlebury volleyball team fell Friday evening in four sets to visiting Hamilton by scores of 26-24, 25-23, 12-25 and 25-19. The Panthers (2-5, 1-1) return to the court on Saturday when they travel to take part in the Skidmore Classic. Middlebury battles St. John Fisher at 1:00 p.m. followed by a match with the host Thoroughbreds at 3:00 p.m. Hamilton (9-3, 2-0) will also take part in the same event Saturday with two matches against Skidmore and Sage.
  • Volleyball Cruises Past Bates In NESCAC Opener

    The Middlebury volleyball team began the NESCAC portion of its schedule with a straight-set victory over visiting Bates by scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-19. The Panthers have almost a week off before they return to the court on Friday when they host Hamilton at 8:00 p.m., while Bates hosts Saint Joseph’s (Maine) on Thursday.
  • Volleyball Falls To Union in Tightly-Contested Four-Setter

    The Middlebury volleyball team opened the home portion of its schedule with a narrow 3-1 setback to visiting Union by scores of 26-24, 18-25, 25-23 and 25-23. The Panthers return to the court on Saturday when it plays host to Bates at 3:00 p.m., while Union plays Kean and Baptist Bible in a tri-match on the same day.
  • Volleyball Drops Two At UMass.-Boston Tourney

    The Middlebury volleyball team (1-3) concluded its opening weekend of play with two more matches at the UMass.-Boston Tournament. After going 1-1 on Friday night, the Panthers opened Saturday’s play with a 3-0 loss to the host school. In its final match of the weekend against Salisbury, Middlebury fell by a score of 3-0.
  • Volleyball Opens Season With Split at UMass Boston Tourney

    The Middlebury volleyball team opened the 2014 season with a 1-1 performance at the UMass Boston Tournament. The Panthers fell to Whitman (4-3) in four sets before rebounding to ease past Western Connecticut State in three sets. Middlebury plays twice more tomorrow against the host Beacons as well as Salisbury at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., respectively.

    The 2014 Middlebury volleyball program has some unfinished business on its hands as it aims for a NESCAC Championship and a return trip to the NCAA Tournament. Despite losing a talented senior trio from last season, the Panthers look primed to contend.
