Middlebury remained undefeated on the season, improving to 7-0 with a convincing 3-0 (12, 17, 6) win over Southern Vermont (3-6). The contest was a rematch of the ’12 NCAA Regionals, where the Panthers came away with a 3-1 win. Middlebury returns to action at Hamilton on Saturday, taking on the host school as well as Union.
Middlebury dominated from start to finish, with the team’s reserves playing the entire second and third sets. Tied at 1-1, Middlebury ran off six straight points to take a 7-1 lead. The Panthers later led 13-8 before going on a five-point spurt to give them an 18-8 lead as they cruised to the 25-12 win in the first set.
The second set was tight, with Middlebury leading 15-9 before the Mountaineers came within two at 18-16. A 4-0 run gave the Panthers the lead as they came away with the set, 25-17.
The third set was all Middlebury as they held Southern Vermont without a kill. The Panthers went on a long run behind the serving of Charlotte Devine and never looked back, cruising to the 25-6 victory.
Meg Anderson led a balanced attack with seven kills, Olivia Kolodka added five, while Lizzy Reed, Gabi Rosenfeld and Megan Jarchow each had four. Reed had a match-high 11 digs, Kathryn Haderlein earned 18 assists in the first set, while Hannah Blackburn had 19 helpers. Rosenfeld and Melanie English each had three block assists.
Jessica Delgado led Southern Vermont with seven kills, while Carrie Baltazar had five. Delgado added a team-best nine digs in the match.
