The Panther women's volleyball team opened up its season with four matches in two days at the Potsdam Invitational.
The season began with a 3-1 win over Potsdam in the team's season-opener. First-year player Lindsay Patterson (Aspen, Colo.) led the offense with 15 kills, sophomore Lexie Fisher (San Francisco, Calif.) had 13, while sophomore Ellen Dickson (Wilbraham, Mass.) added 11. Patterson also had a big day on defense with 19 digs, while her sister, junior Lacee Patterson (Aspen, Colo.) added 13 digs and 47 assists.
Middlebury moved to 2-0 later that night with a lengthy 3-2 win over Oswego. Fisher earned 16 kills in the match, followed by junior Amy Heath (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) with 13 and Lacee Patterson with 10. Senior Jamie Wong (San Francisco, Calif.) had 26 digs in the match, while Lacee Patterson dished out 44 assists.
The Panthers suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday as they fell 3-0 to Roberts Wesleyan, an NAIA school. Fisher had eight kills, while Lacee Patterson earned 11 digs in the match.
The tournament ended with a 3-1 loss to the University of Rochester. Fisher led the offense with 16 kills, while Lindsay Patterson added 10. Wong had 27 kills on defense, followed by Fisher with 21 and Lindsay Patterson with 20.
