Middlebury had a strong second day at the 2020 New England Division III Track and Field Championships, as the Panthers placed sixth in a meet held on the New Balance Track in Virtue Field House. Middlebury collected 51.50 points among the 26 scoring teams, while Williams earned the team title with 159 points. The Panthers are back in action next weekend, competing at the Tufts Last-Chance Meet. The top-eight finishers in each event earned All-New England honors.
The hosts excelled in the 800 meters, placing three runners in the top five. Cassie Kearney was third in the race with a time of 2:16.65 and was immediately followed by teammates Meg Wilson (2:16.77) and Nicole Johnson (2:16.79).
Gretchen McGrath had a pair of fourth-place performance with one coming in an individual event and the other in a relay. In the 400 meters she had a time of 58.56 seconds and joined forces with Ava O'Mara, Grace Desmond and Kearney for a time of 3:59.42 in the 4x400 relay.
Desmond was sixth in the 60-meter high hurdles (9.21 seconds), while Katelyn Pease finished in that same spot in the 1,000 with a time of 3:01.00. Eva Kaiden placed sixth in the 600 meters with a swift time of 1:38.64.
In the shot put, Helene Rowland turned in a sixth-place effort with a toss of 39'6.5".
