Women’s Track & Field Takes Third at New England DIII Championships

Middlebury garnered a third-place finish at the 2018 New England Division III Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship hosted by Springfield on Saturday. The Panthers collected 73 points among the 30 scoring teams, trailing only Williams (149) and MIT (127). The team returns to the New Balance Track in Virtue Field House next weekend for the Middlebury Carnival. The top-eight finishers in each event earned All-New England honors.

Kate McCluskey had a strong meet for the Panthers, placing second in the 400 meters in 57.52 seconds and third in the 200 in 26.09, which set a new school record. Middlebury claimed two of the top-three spots in the 800 meters, as Meg Wilson was second (2:16.75) and Brianna Bisson took third (2:18.88). Talia Ruxin added a second-place effort in the 5,000 meters, completing the race in 17:41.50.

In the shot put, Helene Rowland boasted a toss of 40'0" to place third, while Abigail Nadler finished fifth in the 3,000 meters (10:18.34).

The Panthers gained valuable team points in the relay events, placing in the top five in each of the four. The distance medley relay of Katie Glew, Gretchen McGrath, Olivia Mitchell and Katherine MacCary placed second in a time of 12:19.27. The 4x200 team of Kate Holly, Alex Cook, Ellie Greenberg and Elizabeth Walkes (1:47.12) and the 4x800 quartet of Glew, Tasha Greene, Bisson and Wilson (9:38.49) both finished fourth. The team of Lucy Lang, Anna Willig, Holly and McCluskey combined for a clocking of 4:02.08 in the 4x400 to take fifth.
