Skinner’s Ninth-Place Prelim Time Highlights Day One of NCAA Meet

Catie Skinner's ninth-place preliminary finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase highlighted a rain-soaked day one of the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Geneva, Ohio. The three-day event is being hosted by the University of Mount Union and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission at the SPIRE Institute. Following a day off on Friday, Skinner will compete in the final on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

The Panthers competed in three events on the opening day. Seeded 18th coming into the meet, Skinner posted a time of 10:57.63 in the event, good for second in her heat and ninth overall. She secured a spot in the finals on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

During Thursday's women's 1,500-meter preliminary run, Sasha Whittle (pictured left) posted a time of 4:35.94, good for 14th place and just missing Saturday's final by 1.71 seconds. The top-12 fastest times will vie for the national title on Saturday at 12:25 p.m.

Off the track, Devon Player took part in the javelin toss on Thursday afternoon. Her best throw covered 121'6", good for 20th place.
