Members of the Middlebury College track & field teams took part in the Open New England Championships on Friday and Saturday hosted by M.I.T. The women finished in a tie for 15th out of 41 scoring teams at the event, while the men didn't record any team points. All three NCAA divisions were represented at the meet, as top-eight finishers earned All-New England honors. The teams will return to action next Thursday and Friday at the ECAC Championships hosted by Springfield.
During women's action, Alison Maxwell and Adrian Walsh each earned All-New England honors with runner-up finishes. Maxwell stopped the clock with a time of 17:07.68 during the 5,000-meter run, second only to Sacred Heart's Elizabeth Hutchins with a mark of 17:03.55. Walsh crossed the finish line with the second-quickest time of 36:06.08 in the 10,000-meter run for eight team points behind Chelsey Serrano of New Hampshire's time of 35.55.46.
Katie Carlson also grabbed All-New England accolades by finishing fifth in the 10,000-meter run (36:33.62). Strong top-15 finishes came from Robin Vincent with a 14th-place effort in the 1,500-meter run (4:39.04), while Paige Fernandez was 15th during the 400-meter hurdles (1:04.61).
In the men's events, Kevin Serrao posted a 16th-place finish in the 800-meter run (1:53.13), while Sebastian Matt was 23rd in the 1,500-meter run (3:56.77).
