The Middlebury College track & field teams took part in the New England Championships hosted by Colby. The Panther men and women both finished in 10th place at the meet, with 25 women's teams and 26 men's teams in action. Senior Juliet Ryan-Davis (Newton, Mass.) set a New England and school record with a win in the 800, finishing with a time of 2:07.73. Top eight finishers earned All-New England honors.
First-year thrower Carly Anderson (Mercer Island, Wash.) finished fourth in the javelin (125’7”), while senior Emily Dodge (Auburn, Maine) was fifth in both the long jump (17’2.25”) and the triple jump (36’2”). Placing fifth in the 5,000 was junior Lottie Hedden (Washington, D.C.) in 18:07.44, while rookie Alexandra Morris (London, England) was sixth in the 400 (58.24). Senior Sarah O’Brien (Wellesley, Mass.) earned a sixth place finish in the 800 (2:15.97), while senior Kara Walker (Swansea, Mass.) earned 3,836 points to place eighth in the heptathlon.
The men’s team turned in a great team effort in the 1,500, placing runners in fourth, fifth and sixth places. Senior Jack Davies (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) led the group in 3:51.62, followed by junior Wilder Schaaf (Ashland, Ore.) (3:52.11) and senior Patrick Hebble (Sudbury, Mass.) (3:52.17). Senior Anthony Lee (Plainsboro, N.J.) came in fifth in the 5,000 (14:55.58), while junior Wilder Schaaf (Ashland, Ore.) was sixth in the 800 (1:52.94). Also earning sixth place finishes were junior Bryan Holtzman (Sudbury, Mass.) in the 200 (22.27) and sophomore Taylor Shortsleeve (Medfield, Mass.) in the high jump (6’2’). The men’s 4x100 relay team comprised of Holtzman, junior Kevin Chu (Burlington, Vt.) and sophomores Fritz Parker (Arlington, Va.) and Will Bain (Dover, Mass.) finished third overall in 42.38.
