Middlebury Competes At Open N.E.'s

The Middlebury College track and field teams competed at the all-division New England Track & Field Championships hosted by M.I.T. over the weekend. The men finished ninth overall, while the women placed 33rd.

Senior Kevin Bright (Sharon, Mass.) remained undefeated in the 400 hurdles as he became the New England Champion with a time of 52.76. Bright was also a part of the 4x400 relay team that captured the N.E. title with a time of 3:19.7. He, along with senior Matt Malek (Norridgewock, Maine), sophomore Patrick Swan (Horseheads, N.Y.) and first-year racer Benjamin Fowler (Bethesda, Md.) won the event.

Earning All-New England honors in the 10,000 was sophomore Jimmy Butcher (Garden City, N.Y.), who finished third with a time of 30:52.55. Middlebury's other All-New England performer was junior Andrea Giddings (S. Portland, Maine), who finished seventh in the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 11:05.9.
