2/12/05 - The <?xml:namespace prefix = "st1" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Middlebury College indoor track team was in action last weekend at Tufts, with several athletes turning in impressive performances. <?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Senior Allison Williams (Edina, Minn.) was the lone winner on the women's side as she won the 600 meters in 1:40.90. Placing second in the pole vault was senior Sarah Berkowitz (Media, Pa.), clearing 9'7". Also earning second place finishes were first-year athlete Heather Bessette (Malone, N.Y.), who leapt 34 feet in the triple jump and sophomore Erin Oliver (Essex Junction, Vt.), who turned in a time of 9.15 seconds in the 55-meter hurdles. Finishing with a time of 1:40.90 in the 600 meters was senior Melissa Thacker (Canton, N.Y.), placing second overall.
On the men's side, first-year athlete Jimmy Butcher (Garden City, N.Y.) finished second in the 3000 meters, setting a new school record with a time of 9:02.39. Winners on the day included junior Kevin Bright (Sharon, Mass.) in the 400 (50.80) and first-year athlete Patrick Swan (Horseheads, N.Y.) in the 600 (1:24.03). Bright also did well in the 200, finishing third in 23.15, while senior Jonathan Erwin (Rumson, N.H.) earned a third place finish in the 800 (2:00.44). Middlebury's other top-three finisher was sophomore Will McDonough (Lancaster, N.H.), who placed third in the 3000 with a time of 9:02.39. The Panthers also boasted a winning relay team as Bright, Swan, first-year athlete David LaRocca (Sparta, N.J.) and junior Matt Malek (Norridgewock, Maine) won the 4x400 in 3:26.58.
