Track Teams Compete At N.E.'s

5/11/05 -  The Middlebury College track & field teams competed at the New England Championships over the weekend. The men finished sixth of 26 teams at Springfield, while the women came in 9th of 27 teams at Bates.

Earning a second place finish in the 800 for the women was sophomore Claire Schultz (San Francisco, Calif.) with a time of 2:16.80. Three other women earned fourth place finishes, including senior Melissa Thacker (Canton, N.Y.) in the 400 hurdles (66.29), sophomore Makely Lyon (Portland, Ore.) in the 5000 (18:14.9) and junior Whitney Creed (Farmington, Conn.) in the hammer (145'3").

On the men's side, junior Kevin Bright (Sharon, Mass.) and first-year runner Patrick Swan (Horseheads, N.Y.) continued their dominance in the 400 meter events. Swan won the 400 in 49.37, while Bright won the 400 hurdles with a time of 54.82. In relay events, Bright, Swan, senior Nick Digani (Northfield, Ill.) and rookie David LaRocca (Sparta, N.J.) finished second in the 4x400 with a time of 3:22.17. The men's 4x100 relay team comprised of Bright, Swan, junior Phil Ford (Stamford, Conn.) and senior Liam Aiello (Middletown, Conn.) finished third overall with a time of 42.83.
