The Middlebury women's tennis team remained unbeaten during its spring break trip to California, besting Chapman (1-7) by a 7-2 score on Monday. The match was contested at the Lastinger Tennis Complex. The sixth-ranked Panthers (4-0) have a day off before returning to action Wednesday with an 8:00 p.m. eastern match at No. 4 Pomona-Pitzer.
Middlebury jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles. Christina Puccinelli and Ann Martin Skelly posted an 8-0 victory over Anna Kaplan and Naomi Lee at No. 2, while Katherine Hughes and Skylar Schossberger doubled the Panther advantage via an 8-2 triumph against Alisa Ogranovich and Madison Rossin the top spot. Middlebury completed the sweep behind an 8-3 triumph by Maddi Stow and Nora Dahl at No. 3 against Vasilia Trofimova and Nicole Fouts.
In singles play, the Panthers claimed the first four matches to finish en route to the victory. Puccinelli gave Middlebury a 4-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 against Ross, while Emily Bian clinched the team's fifth point via a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 over Fotovatjah. Schossberger recorded a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 3 against Trofimova, while Hughes made the score 7-0 with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Ogranovich in the top spot.
Chapman tallied victories at No. 6 and No. 5 for the final 7-2 score.
