No. 6 Women’s Tennis Opens Spring With Win Over Hamilton

The sixth-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team opened up its spring season with a 9-0 home NESCAC victory Saturday over Hamilton. The match took place indoors at the Nelson Recreational Center. The Panthers return to action next Saturday with a home contest against 18th-ranked Brandeis at 10:00 a.m.

Middlebury started things off by earning all three points during doubles play. The No. 3 tandem of Maddi Stow and Nora Dahl posted an 8-0 victory over Jane Haffer and Sarah Bargamian. The Panther team of Heather Boehm and Ann Martin Skelly doubled the lead with an 8-2 win in the second flight against Ajla Karabegovic and Kat Roberts. Middlebury's No. 1 pair of Katherine Hughes and Skylar Schossberger gave the Panthers a 3-0 lead after doubles with an 8-2 triumph over Sophia Aulicino and Audrey Chor.

In singles, the Panthers dropped a combined four games in the six flights. Schossberger made the score 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Haffer in the third spot, while Stow clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Roberts at No. 4.

Hughes posted a 6-0, 6-1 win in the top spot, while Boehm blanked Chor in the second slot (6-0, 6-0). Emily Bian increased the Panther advantage to 8-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at the bottom of the lineup, while Emma Gorman completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 win one spot above against Karabegovic.
