  • Women's Tennis Players Honored By The NESCAC - Morgan Is Coach Of The Year

    Middlebury College women's tennis players Claire Smyser (Houston, Texas) and Elizabeth Emery (McLean, Va.) have been honored as All-NESCAC selection. Smyser was named to the first-team in singles and second-team in doubles, while Emery was named to the second-team for her doubles play. Smyser also won the Chaffee Sportsmanship Award, while head coach Mike Morgan earned NESCAC Coach of the Year honors.

    The Middlebury women's tennis team dropped a tight 5-4 match to Bowdoin in the first-round of the NESCAC Tournament hosted by Middlebury. The Polar Bears move to 12-6 on the year and will meet Williams in a NESCAC semifinal match in Middlebury at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Panthers finish their season at 10-5.
  • Women's Tennis Hosting NESCAC's

    Middlebury will serve as the hosted site for the 2008 NESCAC Women's Tennis Championships this weekend. The three-day event begins Friday morning with fifth-seed Bowdoin facing fourth-seed Middlebury at 8:30 a.m., followed by sixth-seed Wesleyan taking on third-seed Tufts at 11:00 a.m. Friday's winners will advance to Saturday's semifinals against top-seeded Williams and second-seeded Amherst. The 2008 NESCAC Women's Tennis Championship will conclude on Sunday, April 27, with the championship match at 9:00 a.m.

    Middlebury wrapped up its regular season with an 8-1 loss at #3 Amherst. The 11th-ranked Panthers return to action this weekend when they host the NESCAC Championships. Middlebury led each doubles match, but ending up dropping all three. Clare Burke was the lone singles winner, picking up a 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 victory.

    The Middlebury women's tennis team wrapped up its home regular season with a 9-0 victory over Hamilton. The Panthers cruised to straight-set wins in all singles matches, while sweeping the doubles contests.

    The Middlebury College women's tennis team won three of four contests played during their annual trip to California for spring break. The Panthers opened with an 8-1 win over Claremont-McKenna, before falling by a score of 7-2 to Azusa Pacific. Middlebury came back with an 8-1 win over M.I.T., before rounding out the week with a 6-3 victory over Pomona-Pitzer.

    The Middlebury College women's tennis team started the season off with four wins as they hosted matches this weekend indoors on campus. The Panthers lost just one game on the weekend as they earned four convincing victories. Middlebury defeated Babson, Bates and Skidmore 9-0, while defeating Brandeis 8-1.

    The Panther women's tennis team wrapped up its fall season at the NEWITT Championships. In singles play, sophomore Jamie Haar (Alpine, N.J.) and first-year player Whitney Hanson (Wayne, Pa.) each won a first round match in their respective brackets. In doubles play, Hanson and senior Amy Berkman (Shelburne, Vt.) drew a bye and earned a win before falling in the quarterfinal round of the tourney.
