The Panther swimming and diving teams concluded the first semester by squaring off with host Springfield on Saturday in a dual meet. Both squads earned their first wins of the season, as the men defeated the Pride by a 156-138 score, while the women edged the hosts, 155.5-144.5. The Panthers take a break for the holidays before returning to action on Saturday, January 12, when they host Colby in a dual meet beginning at 1:00 p.m.
In the women's competition, the Panthers recorded seven event victories in the pool, including two each as individuals by Audrey Hsi and Erin Kelly. Hsi won the 100 butterfly (1:00.12) and the 100 freestyle (55.22), while Kelly touched first in the 50 freestyle (25.63) and the 100 breaststroke (1:10.74).
On the men's side, the team tallied nine wins in the day's 14 swimming events, as six different Panthers posted individual event triumphs in the pool. Charles Quinn claimed both the 50 backstroke (25.48) and the 100 individual medley (56.49), while Corey Jalbert won the 50 freestyle (22.33) and the 100 free (48.44).
Bryan Chang led the field to the wall in the 50 breaststroke (27.99), while Brendan Leech touched first in the 100 backstroke (54.43). Other wins came from Cody Kim in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.24) and Will Pannos during the 50 butterfly (24.72).
In the final event of the day, the 200-yard freestyle relay team Jalbert, Chang, Keegan Pando and Leech posted a winning time of 1:27.73.
