The Middlebury women's squash team has its sights set on lofty goals in 2014-15. Last winter, the women posted a record of 9-8 against a tough schedule and finished the year ranked 15th nationally (seventh in the 'B' division's Kurtz Cup). The team returns seven of the nine regulars this winter from a season ago.

Led by interim head coach Mike Morgan who coached the Panthers during the 2006-07 season, the roster features a deep, talented and experienced squad in 2014-15.

Walking across the stage from last year's squad were Abby Jenkins and Amanda Chen. Jenkins, a four-time All-NESCAC honoree, played at the top spot and posted a 12-5 record as a senior. Chen solidified the bottom of the lineup, playing mainly in the #8 slot.

Despite the losses of the bookends of their lineup, the team returns a strong nucleus this winter. The squad will be led by senior co-captains Charlotte Dewey and Anne Wymard along with junior Saskia Pownall-Gray. A three-time All-NESCAC recipient including first-team nods the last two years, Dewey played mainly at the #2 spot last winter and went 7-4.

Pownall-Gray has continued her ascent toward the top of the lineup in each of the last two seasons, and will be looked to score valuable points at #3.

Behind their depth, the Panthers will maneuver the lineup to find the best combinations. Senior Katie Dewey along with sophomores Maddie Hoar and Audrey Ellen will battle for spots in the lineup, while a talented group of first-year players will likely work into the lineup.

Following their semesters studying abroad, juniors Zoe Carey and Tiffany Hau will return in February to infuse experience and depth into the Panther lineup.

The Panthers' slate opens on the road with a pair of matches at Wesleyan on Saturday, November 15. Middlebury will square off with Smith at 11:30 a.m., followed by a match with the Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. The Panthers will open the home portion of the schedule on Sunday, November 23 against Tufts at 2:00 p.m. Other key dates on the schedule include the Division III Individual Championships at Wesleyan from December 5-7, the Middlebury Round Robin Tournament taking place January 23-25, and the NESCAC Championships happening February 6-8 at Williams.
