Middlebury Blanks Castleton on the Road

Second-ranked Middlebury improved its unbeaten streak to 10 games (9-0-1) with a 3-0 win at Castleton (6-6) Tuesday night at Dave Wolk Stadium. The Panthers return to action on Saturday when they host Colby at 11:00 a.m.

Middlebury took a 1-0 at the 21:31 mark of the first half with the fourth goal of the season from Ellie Greenberg, who finished off a rebound as Isabelle Hartnett collected an assist on the tally.

Julia Carone had a good look for Castleton late in the first half, but her shot from 20 yards out sailed wide right.

The Panthers went on top 2-0 just 3:38 into the second half when Olivia Miller finished off a scrum in front with Eliza Robinson earning the assist. The goal was the second of the season for Miller.

Ellie Bavier put her team on top 3-0 when she headed in a blast from 32 yards out by Caitlin Magruder. The goal, which came at the 71:25 mark, was the first of her career.

Makenzi Bellando nearly put the Spartans on the board less than two minutes later, but her shot was deflected off the crossbar by Panther keeper Ursula Alwang.

Middlebury finished the game with a 32-6 shots advantage, while holding a 9-1 lead in corner kicks. Eva Shaw played the first half and got the win, while Alwang made one second-half save. Loren Henderson made 10 stops for Castleton.
