4/16/05 - Schuyler Winstead scored the game-winning goal with 2:12 left in the second overtime session, giving the second-ranked Middlebury College women's lacrosse team a 12-11 overtime win against host Bowdoin College on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers improve to 8-1 on the year (6-0 NESCAC), while the Polar Bears drop to 8-2 (3-2).
Middlebury opened a commanding 6-2 halftime lead, as Channing Weymouth and Kim Walker each scored a pair of first-half goals. The Panthers held a 6-1 lead until late in the frame, when Taryn King scored with two seconds left in the period to cut the deficit to four goals.
Another score from Walker just 44 seconds into the second period gave the Panthers a 7-2 lead, but a Bowdoin 7-2 run deadlocked the contest with 5:50 remaining. Taylor White started the run with a goal for Bowdoin, who also received a pair of tallies from Lyndsey Colburn and Kate Donoghue in the spurt. When Donoghue scored her third goal of the game on a nice feed from Taryn King, the Polar Bears had tied the game at nine apiece with just under six minutes remaining.
Middlebury answered with back-to-back goals within 58 seconds, as Winstead and Claire Edelen gave the Panthers an 11-9 edge with 3:47 left. Bowdoin rallied again, as Colleen McDonald found the back of the net at 2:45 and - following a Middlebury turnover- Taryn King rifled a shot to the top left corner with three seconds left, deadlocking the game at 11 and sending it into overtime.
Kendall Cox stopped seven shots for Bowdoin, while Johanna Rosenfield made 10 saves for the Panthers.
