Fernandez is in her second season as an assistant coach with the women's hockey team. She came to Middlebury from Brewster Academy where she served as the program’s head coach in 2015-16.

Fernandez spent two years at Brewster Academy, serving as an assistant coach in 2014-15. She also works as a district evaluator for Massachusetts and New Hampshire for USA Hockey.

Prior to her coaching, she was a four-year standout as a defenseman at St. Lawrence University. She is second all-time at the school in career goals for a defenseman (26) and third in points (87). Fernandez was an all-league selection and a member of the ECAC All-Tournament team in 2012, when her squad captured the ECAC Championship. She was also a four-year member of the ECAC All-Academic team and a finalist for ECAC Hockey Student-Athlete of the Year in 2013. She earned her degree from St. Lawrence in 2013, majoring in history and anthropology.

Fernandez went on to play professional hockey in Switzerland for a year after graduation. Prior to attending St. Lawrence, she played four years of hockey at Loomis Chaffee, earning New England Prep Player of the Year honors in 2009.
