Today's Senior Saturday is dedicated to the Middlebury softball Class of 2020, which consists of just one player, Melanie Mandell. She and her teammates have advanced to the NESCAC Tournament in each of the last two seasons, with Mandell garnering several post-season accolades.
Mandell is a three-time first-team All-NESCAC selection, who was selected as the league's Player of the Year in 2019. She has also been named to the all-region team three times, twice making the first team. Mandell appears on the school's single-season records list seven times, including a program-best 17 doubles in 2019. She owns a Middlebury-record .439 career batting average, is tied for first with 14 career home runs, while hitting 44 doubles (second), scoring 80 runs (third) and driving in 91 runs (fourth).
Due to the coronavirus pandemic and the cancellation of the remainder of the spring sports seasons, Middlebury Athletics is dedicating 10 Saturdays in the spring of 2020 to the seniors of each spring team.
