  • Lang, Margiotta, Smith Inducted Into Phi Beta Kappa

    Three Middlebury College senior student-athletes were elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest honor society for the liberal arts and sciences in the United States. Women's track & field runner Lucy Lang (Lexington, Mass.), softball pitcher Irene Margiotta (Mendham, N.J.) and swimmer Andrew Smith (Middletown, N.J.) were honored for their hard work in the classroom. The event was the 151st Phi Beta Kappa induction in Middlebury's history and the trio joins three Panthers inducted in the fall.
  • NESCAC Spring All-Academic Team Members Recognized

    The New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) has announced its 2019 Spring All-Academic Selections. To be honored, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic standing with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50. A transfer student must have completed one year of study at the institution. The following are Middlebury's 132 representatives, the second-highest total in the conference.
  • NESCAC Spring All-Sportsmanship Team Announced

    The New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) announced its Spring All-Sportsmanship Team for each spring sport sponsored by the conference. The All-Sportsmanship Team is composed of one student-athlete from each institution for each sport and is selected by the players and coaches from their respective team for their positive contributions to sportsmanship. The student-athlete selected must be in good academic standing and a member of the team at the conclusion of the season in order to be eligible for selection. 
  • Mandell Earns All-Region Honors

    Middlebury College softball player Melanie Mandell (Harrison, N.Y.) has been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region First Team. The junior led the NESCAC with a .464 batting average this spring as the Panthers qualified for the conference tournament. The 2019 NESCAC Player of the Year, Mandell is now a three-time First-Team All-NESCAC selection.

  • Tufts Holds Off Middlebury In NESCAC Tournament

    Middlebury’s bid to upend Tufts in the opening round of the NESCAC Softball Tournament came up just short, as the Panthers fell to the host Jumbos (28-8) 2-0 on Friday in Massachusetts. Middlebury finished the season with a 12-19 mark and qualified for the conference tournament for the second-straight spring.
  • Panther Softball Team Gears Up for NESCAC Championship

    Middlebury secured the No. 4 seed in the NESCAC West and will open the 2019 NESCAC Tournament on Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. against Tufts, the east's top-seeded team. The Jumbos will host the 2019 NESCAC Softball Championship, which is set for May 3-5, in Medford, Massachusetts. For the second-straight year, the top four teams in each division qualify and will play a single-elimination format. The NESCAC Champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.
  • Middlebury Downed by Castleton as Three School Records Fall

    Middlebury pitcher Irene Margiotta set a pair of single-season records, while Melanie Mandell also broke a school mark, as the Panthers (12-18) dropped an 8-0 game in six innings at Castleton (15-17) on Wednesday. Middlebury returns to action in the NESCAC Tournament at Tufts on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
  • Panthers Fall in NESCAC West Series Finale to Amherst
    April 28, 2019
    Amherst (19-10, 6-6) utilized a seven-run fifth inning on Sunday, earning a 7-0 victory over Middlebury (12-17, 4-8) in the NESCAC West series finale. The Mammoths complete the sweep following 4-1 and 12-4 victories on Saturday. The Panthers, who earned the No. 4 West seed in the upcoming NESCAC Tournament, return to action when they play the east’s top seed and host Tufts on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
  • Amherst Takes A Pair From Softball Team

    Middlebury suffered a pair of losses on Saturday afternoon, as Amherst picked up 4-1 and 12-4 (6 innings) wins over the Panthers (12-16, 4-7) in NESCAC West action. The two teams will play game three of the series on Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m.
  • Four Homers Not Enough As Panthers Drop DH At Castleton
    April 22, 2019
    Middlebury homered four times in a doubleheader at Castleton on Monday, but the Spartans pulled out a pair of one-run decisions against the Panthers. The hosts won the opener 5-4 and then posted an 11-10 triumph in the nightcap. Middlebury (12-14) returns home this weekend, kicking off a three-game NESCAC West series with Amherst on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
  • Middlebury Takes Game Two To Earn Split At Hamilton
    April 20, 2019
    Middlebury bounced back from an 18-6 setback in five innings in the opening game of Saturday’s NESCAC West doubleheader at Hamilton, with a 6-4 triumph in the second contest to earn a split. The Panthers (12-12, 4-5) have a quick turnaround, heading back on the road Monday for a doubleheader at Castleton with the first game starting at 3:30 p.m.
  • Hamilton Holds Off Middlebury
    April 19, 2019
    Hamilton held off a furious Middlebury (11-11, 3-4) comeback, as the Continentals (24-7, 6-4) took game one of a three-game NESCAC West series by a score of 8-7. The two teams will play a pair on Saturday with the first pitch slated for noon.
  • Middlebury Splits at Union, Scores 19 In Game Two
    April 17, 2019
    The Middlebury softball team split a pair of games at Union on Wednesday afternoon. The Panthers (11-10) fell 13-5 in five inning during game one, before exploding for 19 runs in a 19-7 victory during a six-inning nightcap. Middlebury returns to action on Friday with a NESCAC West league game at Hamilton (5:00 p.m.).
  • Mandell Named NESCAC Player of the Week

    Middlebury College softball player Melanie Mandell (Harrison, N.Y.) has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week. The junior hit .579 last week, with four multi-hit games as the Panthers went 4-1. She finished the week with eight RBI, two doubles, two triples and scored five runs. Mandell went 8-for-12 (.667) in a three-game sweep at Wesleyan, driving in five runs and owning an on-base percentage of .714.
  • Middlebury Takes Two From Wesleyan, Sweeps NESCAC Series

    Middlebury completed a three-game sweep of Wesleyan with 3-2 and 4-1 victories over the Cardinals (9-17, 1-8) Saturday afternoon. The Panthers (10-9, 3-3) return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Union for a pair beginning at 3:30 p.m.
  • Softball Explodes For 19 Runs in Win Over Wesleyan
    April 12, 2019
    Middlebury scored 13 runs in the final two innings on its way to a 19-6 win at Wesleyan (9-15, 1-6) in game one of a NESCAC West series. The Panthers (8-9, 1-3) and Cardinals will play two games on Saturday, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
  • Middlebury Earns Split With Keene State
    April 10, 2019
    Middlebury earned a come-from-behind 8-7 win over Keene State in game one, but fell by a 13-9 score in the nightcap on Wednesday afternoon. The Panthers (7-9) return to NESCAC play on Friday afternoon with a 5:00 p.m. game at Wesleyan, while the Owls (6-12) will host Castleton on Thursday at 3:00 p.m.
  • Middlebury Falls to #12 Williams
    April 07, 2019
    Visiting Williams scored in five different innings, picking up an 11-1 victory over Middlebury on Sunday to complete the three-game NESCAC West series sweep. The Panthers (6-8, 0-3) are home again on Wednesday for a 3:30 twin bill against Keene State, while the #12 Ephs (19-4, 6-0) head to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Tuesday for a pair of games at 4:00 p.m.
  • Middlebury Drops NESCAC Doubleheader to #12 Williams

    Middlebury (6-7, 0-2) opened the home portion of its schedule with a NESCAC West doubleheader against #12 Williams, as the Ephs (18-4, 5-0) took the opening contest 10-1 and won the nightcap 18-1 with both games going five innings. The two teams conclude the three-game set on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
  • Softball Ends Trip With Walk-Off Win

    Middlebury scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to pick up a 6-5 win over Union (1-6) on the final game of its spring break trip. The Panthers are scheduled return to action on April 5 when they open NESCAC play with a home game against Williams at 5:00 p.m.
  • Panthers Hit Milestones In Florida Split
    March 26, 2019
    Middlebury hit a pair of milestones in Florida on Tuesday, as the Panthers posted a 9-5 victory over Buffalo State and fell 14-12 in the second game contest of the day against Kalamazoo. Melanie Mandell reached 100 career hits with five on the day, while head coach Kelly Bevere earned her 250th career victory. Middlebury (5-5) concludes their spring trip on Wednesday, facing Wisconsin-Whitewater at 9:30 a.m. and Elmhurst at 11:45 a.m.
  • Middlebury Drops Pair On Spring Trip

    Middlebury fell twice on its spring trip in Florida on Sunday, dropping a 9-8 decision in eight innings to Oberlin and then had a 13-7 setback against Miami Hamilton. The Panthers (4-4) are off on Monday, before continuing their spring trip Tuesday with two more games, starting with Buffalo State at 9:45 a.m. followed by a contest versus Kalamazoo.
  • Panthers Fall Twice in Florida

    Middlebury kicked off its spring trip in Florida, dropping a pair of games on Saturday. The Panthers (4-2) dropped a 3-1 decision to Thomas (Maine) to start the day, before falling 6-0 against Carleton. Middlebury is right back in action Sunday with two more games, facing Oberlin at 11:30 a.m. and Miami Hamilton at 1:45 p.m
  • Margiotta & Marlino Earn NESCAC Honors

    Middlebury College softball players Irene Margiotta (Mendham, N.J.) and Sophia Marlino (Devon, Pa.) have earned NESCAC honors. Margiotta was tabbed the league’s Pitcher of the Week, while Marlino earned Player of the Week honors. The duo helped the Panthers open their season at 4-0 with a pair of doubleheader sweeps last weekend over the College of New Rochelle and Drew.

    Middlebury improved to 4-0 on the season with 8-2 and 11-0 (5) wins at Drew on Sunday afternoon. The Panthers return to action on Saturday with day one of their spring break trip to Florida.
  • Panthers Sweep New Rochelle to Start 2019 Season

    The Middlebury softball team opened up is 2019 season with a pair of NCAA run-rule road victories over the College of New Rochelle (4-2) at Flowers Park. The Panthers took the opener of the doubleheader by an 11-0 score in five innings, before claiming a 13-3 victory in six innings. Middlebury (2-0) returns to action on Sunday with a twinbill at Drew slated to begin at 12:00 p.m.

  • 2019 Softball Season Preview

    The Middlebury softball team welcomes back five of its top-seven hitters from the 2018 lineup, as the team finished with a 20-11 mark and advanced to the NESCAC Tournament. The team not only had a successful campaign on the field, but in the classroom as well. Seven Panthers were recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) for having a grade point average of 3.50 or better through the spring season, while three players earned NESCAC All-Academic accolades with a minimum of 3.40 GPA.
