  • Panther Softball Lauded by NFCA for Classroom Work

    The Middlebury softball team was honored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) for its overall work in the classroom during the 2015-16 academic year. Nine Panthers have also earned All-America Scholar-Athlete laurels for their individual work.

    The Middlebury softball program will offer a one-day advanced skills camp on Sunday, January 15 from 10:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. in the Virtue Field House.
  • Middlebury Softball to Host Hitting Clinics

    The Middlebury softball team will offer two advanced power hitting clinics on Saturday, August 13 and Thursday, August 18. The one-day clinics will run from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. inside Middlebury's Virtue Field House. The purpose of the sessions is to help participants learn a movement-based approach to hitting which will increase their consistency in hitting for power.
  • NESCAC Spring All-Sportsmanship Teams Announced

    The New England Small College Athletic Conference announced its Spring All-Sportsmanship Team for each spring sport sponsored by the conference. The All-Sportsmanship Team is composed of one student-athlete from each institution for each sport and is selected by the players and coaches from their respective team for their positive contributions to sportsmanship. The student-athlete selected must be in good academic standing and a member of the team at the conclusion of the season in order to be eligible for selection.
  • Hamilton Earns NFCA Third-Team All-Region Laurels

    Middlebury College softball player Emma Hamilton (Darien, Conn.) has been selected as an All-New England Region third-team honoree by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). The award is the first regional accolade for the junior outfielder.
  • Vachow, Hamilton Selected to the All-NESCAC Second Team

    Two members of the Middlebury College softball team were honored when the NESCAC announced its all-conference teams. Senior Carlyn Vachow (St. Louis, Mo.) and junior Emma Hamilton (Darien, Conn.) were each named to the second team. The pair helped lead the team to a record of 21-11 in 2016.
  • Softball Swept in NESCAC West Doubleheader at Williams

    The Middlebury softball team dropped both ends of NESCAC West doubleheader at Williams on Saturday, falling 3-2 in nine innings in the opening game and 11-3 in six in the nightcap. The twin bill wrapped up the regular season for the Panthers, finishing with a record of 21-11 and 5-7 in conference play.

    The Middlebury softball team had its nine-game winning streak come to an end as Williams earned a 4-3 walk-off win over the Panthers in game one of a three-game NESCAC West series Friday in Massachusetts. Middlebury (20-9, 4-5) returns to the field for a doubleheader on Saturday against the 23rd-ranked Ephs (27-8, 8-2) at 12:00 p.m.
  • Panther Softball Takes Two From Plattsburgh State

    The Middlebury softball team swept both ends of a doubleheader on Wednesday at Plattsburgh State. The Panthers scored 10 runs on eight hits during a 10-1 five-inning victory in game one, while cruising in the nightcap for a similar 10-1 win in six innings. Winners of nine-straight games, the Panthers improve to 20-8 for the season, marking the fifth time in the last six seasons the program has reached the 20-win plateau. Middlebury will return to the diamond when it visits Williams in a crucial three-game NESCAC West series. First pitch of the single game on Friday is set for 5:00 p.m., while Saturday’s doubleheader is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
  • Panthers Tally Come-From-Behind Wins Over St. Joseph’s in Final Home Games

    Middlebury rallied for two come-from-behind wins, sweeping a doubleheader in the final home games of the season against visiting St. Joseph's (Vt.) on a cool and windy Monday. The Panthers scored in every inning during the opener for a 12-4 victory in six innings, and scored three times in the bottom of the seventh for a walk-off win in the nightcap, 9-8. The Panthers (18-8) have won seven-straight games and will return to action when they play in a twinbill on Wednesday at Plattsburgh State beginning at 3:30 p.m., while St. Joseph's (21-11) travels to New Hamphire Technical Institute on the same day.

    The Middlebury softball team swept both ends of a NESCAC West doubleheader against Hamilton on a cold and blustery Saturday, combining for 25 runs on 31 hits in 12-7 and 13-9 victories. Winners of five-straight games, the Panthers (16-8, 4-4) will return to the diamond when they host St. Joseph’s (Vt.) on Monday in a doubleheader beginning at 4:00 p.m., while Hamilton (10-22, 3-9) entertains Skidmore for a Tuesday twinbill at 4:00 p.m.
  • Softball Takes Game One Against Hamilton

    Middlebury’s three runs in the second proved to be enough as the Panthers picked up a 4-0 win over Hamilton in game one of a three-game NESCAC West series in Vermont. The Panthers (14-8, 2-4) return to the diamond for a doubleheader on Saturday against the Continentals (10-20, 3-7) with a 12:00 p.m. start time.
  • Softball Team Sweeps St. Lawrence As Bevere Earns 200th Win

    The Middlebury softball team rallied for a pair of wins, sweeping a doubleheader against visiting St. Lawrence on Tuesday as Panther head coach Kelly Bevere (pictured below) earned her 199th and 200th career victories. Middlebury posted a 9-7 triumph in the opening game of the twin bill and came away with a 6-5 win in the second contest. Bevere, who is in her 10th season, improved her career mark to 200-129. The Panthers (13-8) return to NESCAC action when they host Hamilton on Friday at 5:00 p.m., while St. Lawrence (10-17) travels to Alfred on Sunday for a doubleheader at 12:30 p.m.
  • Softball Splits With Wesleyan

    The Middlebury softball team took game one from Wesleyan 6-0, but fell in the second game of the day by a score of 6-3. With yesterday’s 2-1 win, the Cardinals (18-10, 4-5) win the NESCAC West series, 2-1. The Panthers (11-8, 1-4) return to action when they host St. Lawrence on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., while Wesleyan entertains Western New England on the same day at 3:00 p.m.
  • Late Rally Lifts Wesleyan Past Middlebury in NESCAC Series Opener

    Middlebury lost the opening game of a NESCAC West series to visiting Wesleyan by a 2-1 count on Friday. The Cardinals came from behind, scoring a pair of unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning for the victory. Middlebury (10-7, 0-3) returns to the diamond for a twinbill Saturday against the Cardinals (17-9, 3-4) scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
  • Saturday’s Softball Twinbill to Serve as Green Dot Games

    The Middlebury softball NESCAC doubleheader against Wesleyan on Saturday will serve as Middlebury’s first Green Dot Games. The Panther softball team is the initial Middlebury varsity sport to become an official Green Dot team, having completed a team training session. “We hope this event will help raise awareness about power-based personal violence on and around our campus and community,” said Barbara McCall, the Middlebury Director of Health and Wellness Education. “We also look to empower everyone in our community to take steps to prevent violence and show their support for a safer campus.”
  • Strong Offense Lifts Softball to Sweep at New England College

    The Middlebury softball team swept both ends of a doubleheader, combining for 28 runs on 31 hits Wednesday at New England College. The Panthers scored a season-high 15 runs on 17 hits, including a program record four home runs, during a 15-2 five-inning victory in game one, while cruising in the nightcap for a 13-1 win in five innings. Winners of five-straight games, the Panthers will return to the diamond when they host a three-game NESCAC West series against Wesleyan. First pitch of the single game on Friday is set for 5:00 p.m., while Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
  • Stearns Tabbed NESCAC Pitcher of the Week

    Middlebury College softball player Neve Stearns (Granby, Conn.) has been named the NESCAC Pitcher of the Week. The senior picked up a pair of complete-game wins last week for the Panthers, allowing just two earned runs with nine strikeouts and one walk over 14 innings of work. Stearns' best performance of the week was a two-hit shutout with four strikeouts in which she faced just one batter over the minimum in Sunday's victory over Castleton.
  • Softball Sweeps Castleton Behind Walk-Off Win, Strong Pitching Efforts

    A walk-off win in game one and a pair of solid complete-game pitching performances highlighted Middlebury’s doubleheader sweep of Castleton in softball action. The Panthers (8-6), who were victorious by scores of 3-2 and 6-0 over the Spartans, return to NESCAC West action on Friday when they host Wesleyan for the first of three-game weekend series, while Castleton (6-8) plays a twinbill at Lyndon State on Wednesday.
  • Softball Opens Home Schedule With Split Against Skidmore

    Middlebury collected 13 hits and received a quality outing from pitcher Neve Stearns during the second game of a doubleheader split with Skidmore on Friday. The Thoroughbreds won the opening the game 10-4 in the home-opening games, but Middlebury rebounded for a 5-2 triumph in the nightcap. The Panthers (6-6) are home again Sunday for a doubleheader against Castleton State at 1:00 p.m., while Skidmore (8-12) is back on the field Sunday for a home twin bill against St. Lawrence at 1:00 p.m.

    The Middlebury softball schedule has been shuffled around a bit as the region deals with cold weather anticipated for this weekend. The home doubleheader with Skidmore slated for Saturday, April 9 at 1:00 p.m. has been moved up a day. The twinbill will now take place on Friday, April 8 with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m.

  • Middlebury Softball Falls to Amherst in Opener, Second Game Suspended

    The Middlebury softball team dropped the opening game of a NESCAC West doubleheader at Amherst on Saturday, while the second game was suspended due to darkness and will be resumed at a later date. The Panthers were leading 9-6 after five innings in the nightcap after dropping the opener 7-4. The Panthers (5-5, 0-2) will open the home portion of their schedule with a doubleheader on Wednesday against Union (N.Y.) beginning at 3:30 p.m., while Amherst (11-4, 2-0) hosts Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on the same day.
  • Middlebury Drops NESCAC Opener to Amherst In Extra Innings

    The Middlebury softball team saw Amherst score a run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, and then win the game on a walk-off home run in the ninth as the Purple & White came away with a 5-3 win over the Panthers on Friday. Brianna Cook hit a two-run homer to left to break a 3-3 tie and give Amherst the victory in the NESCAC opener for both teams. The Panthers (5-4, 0-1) and Amherst (10-4, 1-0) play the final two games of the three-game set with a doubleheader tomorrow at 12:00 p.m.
  • Softball Home-Opening Twinbill With Union Pushed Back a Day

    With the possibility of unseasonably cool weather in the forecast, the Middlebury softball home-opening doubleheader against Union (N.Y.) originally scheduled for Tuesday, April 5 has been pushed back a day. The twinbill will now be played on Wednesday, April 6 with the first pitch set for 3:30 p.m.

    The Middlebury softball team (5-3) ended its three-day, eight-game spring break trip by winning two of the three contests on Sunday. The Panthers opened with a 6-5 win over Buffalo State (8-8) before defeating Thomas (4-9) by a score of 5-2. The day ended with a 5-0 loss to seventh-ranked Luther (19-1).

    The Middlebury softball team won two of three games on Saturday afternoon during its spring break trip to Clermont, Florida. The Panthers (3-2) opened with a 2-1 loss to the University of Chicago (7-1) before bouncing back with a vengeance, downing Oberlin (1-16) 11-0 and Thomas (Maine) (4-6) 8-0 in a pair of five-inning games. Middlebury returns to action on Sunday with games against Buffalo State, Thomas and Luther.
  • Softball Opens Season With Split in Florida

    The Middlebury softball team opened up its season by splitting a pair of games during its spring trip. The Panthers earned a 3-2 win over Southern Maine (8-3) in the opener, but fell to West Virginia University Institute of Technology (10-15) 11-5 in the second game of the day. The contests took place in Clermont, Florida, where Middlebury will be back in action on Saturday playing games against Chicago, Oberlin and Thomas (Maine).
  • 2016 Softball Season Preview

    The Middlebury softball team enters the 2016 season after coming up just short of the NESCAC Championship game last spring. The Panthers finished last spring with a 20-11 mark and will look to vie for the NESCAC crown again this season. The team not only had a successful campaign on the field, but in the classroom as well. A total of five Panthers were recognized by the NFCA for having a grade point average of 3.50 or better through the spring season, while seven players earned NESCAC All-Academic accolades for a 3.35 GPA or better.
  • Katie Sorochka Named Assistant Softball Coach

    Middlebury College has announced the hiring of Katie Sorochka as a softball assistant coach. Sorochka comes to Middlebury for her first collegiate coaching position with extensive on-field experience in both pitching and hitting.
