Middlebury improved to 13-7 on the season as they took a pair from Bates (6-6). The games were non-league for the Panthers, with Bates competing in the NESCAC east division.
Middlebury exploded for four runs in the fifth inning of game one to break open a scoreless game. A two-run single by Maura Casey plated a pair, while a passed ball and ground out scored the other two runs. The Panthers came back in the next inning to score two as three straight pinch-hits from Ellen Sargent, Lily Hamburger and Shannon Donegan started the inning. Sargent would score on an error following Donegan's hit, while Casey singled in Donegan later in the inning.
Jennifer Williams went the distance, striking out four to earn the five-hit shutout in the 6-0 win. Casey ended the game 3-3 with three RBI, while six other players had hits. Caitlin Murphy and Alex Bethel each had two hits to pace Bates.
Middlebury took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two as Victoria Glowacky scored on an error. Bates tied the game in the second inning before an RBI double to left by Casey in the second gave Middlebury a 2-1 lead. The lead grew to 3-1 later in the inning with an RBI single from Glowacky, plating Casey. Bates cut the lead to 3-2 in the third with an RBI single through the left side from Bethel, but that would be the game's final run.
Brittany Burke earned the win, allowing one earned run over seven innings of work. Katelyn Cannella had a pair of hits in the game for Middlebury. Kristin Masino went 2-3 with an RBI to lead Bates.
