Middlebury squeaked out a run to earn a 1-0 win in game one, and then exploded for 18 runs in game two en route to a doubleheader sweep over Green Mountain. The Panthers improve to 15-7 on the season, while Green Mountain falls to 9-11.
Jennifer Williams threw a no-hitter for Middlebury in game one, walking just one batter while striking out 12 on the afternoon. The Panthers lone run came in the fourth inning when Carolyn Davis singled in Christine Grimaldi, who led off the inning with a walk. Grimaldi and Ellen Sargent also had singles in the game for Middlebury.
In game two, Middlebury jumped out with eight runs in the first inning on its way to an 18-0 win that ended after five innings of play. The Panthers sent 14 players to the plate in the first inning, scoring eight times on six hits, while leaving the bases loaded. Lauren Battaglia had a two-run single in the inning, while Katelyn Cannella, Lauren Guza and Grimaldi each had RBI singles.
RBI doubles by Guza and Victoria Glowacky in the second inning helped Middlebury take an 11-0 lead. The Panthers would added three more runs in the third and four in the fourth to cruise to the 18-0 win. Guza went 2-3 with two runs scored and two RBI, Grimaldi went 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Cannella went 2-2 with two runs scored. Brittany Burke earned the win, allowing two hits and striking out six over five innings of work.
