Three members of the Middlebury College softball team were honored when the All-NESCAC teams were announced. Senior Lauren Guza (LaCanada, Calif.) was a first-team selection, while senior Megan McCarthy (Winter Springs, Fla.) and junior Lauren Battaglia (Framingham, Mass.) were both named to the second team. The threesome helped lead the Panthers to a 20-10 season with a third straight trip to the NESCAC Tournament.
After earning second team honors a year ago, Guza is a first team selection in 2005. The senior led the team at the plate this season, hitting .364 over 26 games. She paced the team with 32 hits, while earning a .982 fielding percentage at first base.
Battaglia was second on the team this season, hitting .312 over 30 games. She set a new single-season record with 10 doubles, while driving in a team-high 19 runs this season. Battaglia threw out 17 of 19 runners trying to steal this season, boasting a .972 fielding percentage behind the plate.
McCarthy was honored as a pitcher, despite an injury that saw her go a 13-game stretch without a decision. She earned an overall record of 7-4 with a 1.18 ERA over 15 appearances. She struck out 81 batters in 83 innings, allowing just 14 earned runs and 13 walks.
