Middlebury College skiers Sam Wood (Harpswell, Maine) and Annika Landis (Hailey, Idaho) have been selected as the Eastern Intercollegiate Skiing Association (EISA) Nordic Skiers of the Week. The pair helped the Middlebury ski teams win their own carnival, claiming a weekend win for the first time since 2008, when they captured the Vermont Carnival.
On Friday, the Panther men's nordic won the 15K classic event, owning three of the top four finishes. Wood earned his second collegiate victory, covering the course with a time of 39:16. The following day, the senior helped the men place second overall in the 10K freestyle race. He was the top Panther to finish the event, placing third with a time of 22:23.
Landis helped the women race to a strong third-place finish in the 10K classical event. The junior paced the Panthers in fifth place, coming in with a time of 30:02. She led the Middlebury women in Saturday's 5K free event, placing sixth with a time of 13:24.
Wood and Landis along with their teammates return to action this Friday and Saturday when they compete in the Bates Carnival. The event will also serve as the EISA Championships.
