Week one of the 2019 carnival season is in the books with Middlebury taking home third-place honors at St. Lawrence. UVM won the event with 895 points, followed by Dartmouth (865) and the Panthers (771). Alpine events took place at Whiteface, while nordic races were held at Mt. Van Hoevenberg. Middlebury is back in action next weekend at the UNH Carnival.
On Sunday, the men's and women's nordic team each placed third in their respective races. In the women's 10K classical event, Annika Landis equaled her career-best finish established the previous day with another second-place effort, covering the course in 34:32. Next up for the Panthers was Alexandra Lawson, who bested her top collegiate finish on Saturday by earning a time of 35:05 to place sixth on Sunday. Avery Ellis covered the course in 36:02, finishing 17th overall.
Pacing the men's efforts in the 10K classic was Peter Wolter, who crossed the line eighth with a time of 29:45. Two spots back was teammate Lewis Nottonson, who rounded out the top 10 in 29:46. The third Panther to score was Sam Wood, whose 21st-place finish came in 30:28.
