Seven Panther Skiers Named to National Collegiate All-Academic Team

A total of 276 student-athletes from 29 institutions of higher education were Friday named to the 2015 National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team, announced and awarded by the United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association. One of the most difficult academic teams of its kind nationally, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative 3.50 grade point average in the classroom and have competed in one of three NCAA Regional competitions.

Finding a spot on the list from the alpine team were junior Ghassan Gedeon Achi (Dubai, United Arab Emirates), junior Elle Gilbert (Woodstock, Vt.), sophomore Christopher McKenna (West Hartford, Vt.) along with seniors Yina Moe-Lange (Sammamish, Wash.) and Kara Shaw (Hanover, N.H.).

From the nordic team, senior Heather Mooney (Peru, Vt.) as well as rookie Jacob Volz (Incline Village, Nev.) were named for their work in the classroom.

Gilbert, McKenna and Mooney will take part in the NCAA Championships from March 11-14 in Lake Placid, New York, and will be hosted by St. Lawrence University.
