Middlebury had a solid showing on day two, finishing the 2014 Middlebury Carnival/EISA Championship in third place overall. UVM won the event with 1,031 points, followed by Dartmouth (905), Middlebury (664) and Colby (641). Action took place at the Rikert Nordic Center and the Middlebury College Snow Bowl. Hig Roberts won his third-straight giant slalom event for the men’s alpine squad, covering the course in 1:54.75.
Joining Roberts as a scorer for the men was Liam Mulhern, who finished in 17th place with a time of 1:57.09. Rounding out the scorers for the Panthers was Ghassan Gedeon-Achi, who came in 21st place overall (1:57.38).
On the women's side, Elle Gilbert earned her best finish of the season, finishing fourth overall in 1:58.83. In her first carnival event of the season, Isabel Kannegieser came in 23rd in the GS with a time of 2:03.54. Lisa Schroer earned a 26th-place finish (2:03.81) to round out Middlebury’s top-three competitors.
Middlebury placed three finishers in the top 20 in the 15K freestyle race, led by a 14th-place effort from Kelsey Phinney in 41:23. Placing 17th in the race was Stella Holt in 41:35, followed by Emily Attwood, who placed 19th with a time of 41:53.
After earning a win in the 10K race yesterday, top racer Ben Lustgarten was unable to complete today’s 20K freestyle event due to injury. Adam Luban turned in a season-best 17th-place finish to place the men, covering the course in 45:56. Placing 21st was Austin Cobb in 46:13, followed by Dylan McGarthwaite in 27th place (47:05).
