Panthers Claim Third At Colby Carnival

Middlebury improved one spot to finish third overall at the Colby Carnival in Maine. Vermont won the event with 1,012 points, followed by Dartmouth (882), Middlebury (682) and UNH (620). The men’s slalom team turned in the top performance on day two with two racers in the top 10.

Colin Hayes paced the men’s alpine team on Saturday, earning a sixth place finish in the slalom with a time of 1:29.93. Next for the Panthers was Liam Mulhern, who crossed the finish line in eighth place in 1:30.08. Christopher McKenna rounded out the team’s scorers with a time of 1:31.22, good for 16th place.

After falling in the GS on day one, Kara Shaw came back strong in the slalom event, earning a top 10 finish in ninth place with a time of 1:40.51. Yina Moe-Lang turned in a 21st place finish in 1:43.90, while Elle Gilbert was close behind in 22nd place (1:44.56).

On the women’s nordic side, Heather Mooney was impressive in the 10K freestyle race, placing fifth overall with a time of 29:03. Stella Holt just missed a top 10 finish by placing 11th with a time of 29:43. Kaitlin Fink was the team’s third scorer in 17th place, crossing the line with a time of 30:11.

After a second place finish in the 10K classic on Friday, Ben Lustgarten came back on day two with a third place finish (36:47) in the 15K freestyle event. Austin Cobb was next in 15th place (38:15), while Jack Steele finished 33rd (39:29).
