Day One Complete At NCAA Ski Championships

Day one is complete at the 2011 NCAA Skiing Championships hosted by the University of Vermont. Two events were contested, with the GS events previously scheduled for Thursday the 10th moved to today due to the impending weather. Colorado leads the event (408), followed by Dartmouth (362), Utah (353) and Vermont (349), with Middlebury sitting in ninth place (125).

At Stowe, rookie Robert Cone earned All-American honors in the GS, finishing the race fourth overall with a time of 2:03.08. Sophomore Andrew McNealus was next for the Panthers with a 20th place finish (2:04.91), followed by first-year racer Hig Roberts in 32nd place (2:15.90)

Seniors Nicole Dvorak and Tasha Woodworth also raced at Stowe for the Middlebury women. Dvorak finished the race in 24th place in 2:09.41, while Woodworth placed 26th in 2:09.82.

In the women's 5K freestyle race today at Trapp, sophomore Corinne Prevot earned a 25th place finish in 15:24 in the 39-person race. On the men's side, junior Chase Marston finished the 39-man 10K free race in 31st place with a time of 27:45. Finishing the race in 37th place (28:09) for the Panthers was first-year racer Ben Lustgarten (Burlington, Vt.).
