The ski teams returned to action with a fourth place finish in the second carnival of the season, with events hosted by Colby. UVM (991) won the event, followed by Dartmouth (867), UNH (696) and the Panthers (639.5). The men's GS team turned in the top performance on the weekend, placing third overall.
Sophomore Andrew McNealus (Woodstock, Vt.) and rookie Hig Roberts (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) turned in impressive performances during the men’s GS race. McNealus placed third overall in 2:04.99, while Roberts placed fifth with a time of 2:06.23. In the slalom race, first-year racer Robert Cone (Killington, Vt.) led the squad with a seventh place finish in 1:20.87. McNealus was next in 13th place (1:21.24), followed by sophomore Bryan Shpall (Englewood, Colo.) who finished the race in 17th (1:21.49).
Senior Nicole Dvorak (Essex Junction, Vt.) was the top women’s finisher in the GS race, placing eighth with a time of 2:12.31. Senior Tasha Woodworth (Carlisle, Mass.) was Middlebury’s other top finisher, coming in 11th with a combined time of 2:13.54.
Senior Sophie McClelland (Keene Valley, N.Y.) led the women’s nordic team in the 10K classic, finishing the race in 15th place (42:06) overall. Sophomore Keely Levins (Rutland, Vt.) was next for the Panthers in 21st place (42:39), followed by first-year racer Emily Attwood (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) in 24th (43:11). McClelland, Attwood and sophomore Corinne Prevot (East Burke, Vt.) was Middlebury’s top relay team in the 3x6 freestyle race, coming in sixth overall in 1:11.05.
First-year racer Ben Lustgarten (Burlington, Vt.) and junior Chase Marston (Charlotte, Vt.) were the men’s top finishers in the 10K classic race, placing 10th (32:47) and 11th (32:52) respectively. Middlebury’s other scorer was junior Doug DeBold (Wayzata, Minn.), who finished 19th (33:29). DeBold, senior Jimmy Levins (Rutland, Vt.) and rookie Austin Cobb (Peru, Vt.) comprised Middlebury’s top 3x6 freestyle relay team, placing 11th overall (56:15).
